A fully organized cannabis plantation, in an inaccessible forest area of ​​the Municipality of Pangaio Kavala, was maintained by a criminal group, which was dismantled by police officers from two departments of the Border Guard of Florina.

The hemp plantation consisted of 397 seedlings, up to 2.10 meters tall. Police officers from the Border Guard Department of Krystallopigi Florina, in collaboration with police officers from the Border Guard Department of Kato Kleina Florina, in the context of a two-month methodical investigation, used data for the geographical location of the plantation and led to the members of the criminal group, who are involved in the cultivation of cannabis seedlings and in its further movement.

In a coordinated police operation, which took place in areas of Kavala at noon on Monday 7/8, three foreigners, aged 21, 29 and 50, were arrested as members of the criminal group, while the details of a fourth foreigner, aged 33, have been identified. who is said to be a leading member of the group and resides permanently in a foreign country.

From the preliminary investigation it was established that at least from 07-05-2023 the 33-year-old had set up a criminal group, the members of which, having distinct roles and operating by profession, proceeded to the systematic cultivation of cannabis, in the wider area of ​​Kavala with the sole purpose of achieving illegal financial benefit from its circulation.

In yesterday’s police operation, where the plantation was located, the two foreigners, aged 29 and 21, were arrested inside it, who, according to the police investigation, under the guidance of the 33-year-old were concerned with the care of the crop and were carrying out cultivation work .

The arrested lived in a makeshift accommodation (tent) inside the plantation, from where they simultaneously monitored and observed the wider area, so that they could immediately and in time perceive any approach of the prosecuting authorities.

Subsequently, the 50-year-old foreigner was also located and arrested yesterday afternoon in another area of ​​Kavala. car provided supplies, to the 29-year-old and the 21-year-old, who lived on the plantation.

The illegal income of the criminal group, from the harvesting of hemp extracts from the seedlings of the plantation, is estimated at at least 594,000 euros.

Digging tools, implements and watering equipment were found in the plantation area, while in the makeshift accommodation were found household utensils, food, bedding and other items that enabled the detainees to live there.

As part of the police operation, searches were carried out in the area of ​​the plantation and the 50-year-old’s home, as well as in areas of Kavala, where they found and confiscated:

-397 hemp plants, 70 to 210 cm tall

-various objects and paraphernalia related to the professional and organized cultivation of cannabis,

-a I.X. A truck,

-three solar panels and a car battery for energy collection,

-a petrol pump,

-four mobile phones with four sim cards

The preliminary investigative work was carried out by the Border Guard Department of Krystallopigi Florina, while the arrested persons, with the criminal case filed against them, were taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Kavala.
