Demonstrations against the “chipaki” are planned in Athens and Thessaloniki
Queues continue at the police stations in many regions of the country by citizens who are in a hurry to renew their old IDs, or to get new ones but with the existing card, in order not to have to get the new, digital ID, which will begin to be issued by the mid September.

For example, on Serreslong queues are formed every day and outside the city’s Police Station by citizens who want to avoid the new digital identities as they are worried that there will be a “chip” and they will be watched.
The same scene in Crete where citizens line up from dawn outside the buildings of the police services in order to have time to renew their identities and avoid being… chipped.
In Patrasin recent weeks dozens of people have been crowding the police stations every day, with the president of the police officers of Achaia, Haris Tsitsikas, speaking of “a difficult situation”.
At Thessalonikithe police are now asking for the reinforcement of their offices, as applications for new IDs have exceeded 3,500.
Meetings in Athens and Thessaloniki
As backlash against the new, digital identities grows, protest rallies are planned in Athens and Thessaloniki.
According to the relevant calls on social media, the protest rallies will take place in Thessaloniki on Sunday September 3 and in Athens on Sunday September 10 with the slogan: “No to digital electronic slavery, no to facial identification”.
