Its Board of Directors KEDEwhich met yesterday Friday, September 8 in Thessaloniki in a joint meeting with the PED of Central Macedonia decided on immediate financial support to the affected municipalities in order to clean up the cities, restore the urban road and rural network, and remove bulky objects and portable materials.

THE president of KEDE Lazaros Kyrizoglou in his presentation he emphasized that the Local Government will immediately and with all the means at its disposal, on the side of the affected Municipalities, in order to restore normality to the residents and professionals of these areas as soon as possible.

In particular, Mr. Kyrizoglou stated that after communication he had from the first moment with all the mayors of the affected areas in Thessaly, Central Greece, Skiathos and Skopelos and after their universal request to contribute to the restoration of normality in the operation of the cities, KEDE will assist their request in a specific way and in the next few days program contracts will be concluded between KEDE and the relevant affected municipalities, with the aim of covering the costs for the above projects and based on the needs that the municipalities will judge.

For this purpose, KEDE will allocate the amount of 300 thousand euros.

Also, Mr. Kyrizoglou called on his fellow mayors to the extent that they have the ability, to send to the affected municipalities machine tools for the cleaning of the cities. He pointed out, however, that the Ministry of the Interior should immediately ensure that the municipalities have the possibility to allocate such expenses in a legal way.

Also, the president of KEDE addressed an appeal to all the municipalities that collect essential items for our affected fellow human beings, that the mission should be done after consultation with the relevant municipalities, i.e. only when and where the same municipalities indicate, as at the moment there are none organized collection and distribution points for material aid.

Mr. Kyrizoglou also announced that KEDE, at the request of the PED of South Aegean, will support the Municipality of Rhodes with technical equipment for the prevention and treatment of fires, and in particular with the supply of two firefighting vehicles.

Also, in consultation with the PED of Eastern Macedonia Thrace, it will be decided how KEDE will assist the municipalities affected by the devastating Evros fires.

THE president of the PED of Central Macedonia Ignatios Kaitezidis expressed condolences and support to the people who are being tested and stressed the need for better coordination in sending aid to flood victims.

He also announced that the PED of Central Macedonia will assist the municipalities affected by the bad weather in the same way as the KEDE and will allocate the amount of 100 thousand euros for the conclusion of program contracts with the relevant affected municipalities for the costs of cleaning the cities and settlements.

Mr. Kaitezidis also underlined that in the next period the Self-Government should be concerned with the issue of reviewing and redesigning the infrastructure of the cities, but also the issue of responsibilities.

On the same wavelength was also the mayor of Thessaloniki Konstantinos Zervas, who in the greeting emphasized that a restart is needed for civil protection issues that will be based on clarifying responsibilities, rules and securing resources. He also emphasized that the municipality of Thessaloniki is at the disposal of the affected places, by any possible means.
