Two new programs to support the flood-affected farmers of Thessaly will be announced soon by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, as said by competent minister, Lefteris Avgenakis to representatives of the Farmers of the areas around Karla, with whom he met.

One program will cover the loss of income, for as long as it takes, as 180,000 hectares of arable land are covered in water.

The second program will cover the loss of income to farmers whose fields are unfit for cultivation, as they have deposited on them carried materials and silt.

In fact, a new program of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, with the support of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, is expected to operate immediately for the removal of the transported materials.

“From the first moment we were committed, so in a very short time we will be able to announce this program as well as a program for those whose fields are not flooded but cannot produce,” he said. Mr. Avgenakis, in his statements after the meeting.

He also added that the prime minister’s order is to do everything to support the affected farmers of Thessaly.

“From the first moment of the disaster, we invested in consistency and reliability”, emphasized the Ministry of AAT, noting that the programs will be announced when they are complete and have received the relevant approvals from the EU. “The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis builds relationships of trust. This road is long and we will be together with proposals and discussions.”

The farmers acknowledged that the Ministry of Rural Development and Food has been consistent in its announcements so far, while they raised a number of individual problems that arise over time.

Already, 123.5 million euros have been paid as compensations for livestock and crop production, while 260 million euros have been transferred to ELGA to cover the losses.

As pointed out, there is an information office at the ELGA Offices in Larissa, where farmers can get clarifications on the compensations they have received, or register possible errors.

At the same time, a series of measures are running, such as 5.2 for the replacement of livestock and the reconstruction of stables, the expanded – including the runners-up – Improvement Plans, as well as the compensation of fishermen or even those who were not insured in ELGA, always with aimed at strengthening the effort to reconstruct agricultural production in the Thessalian plain.

At the meeting, which took place at the initiative of the deputies of Thessaly of the ND, Chr. Kella, Ch. Captain and Maximos Harakopoulos, the director of the Prime Minister’s Office in the Parliament, Michalis Bekiris, also participated.
