The police call the measures announced earlier today, Monday, by government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis for fan violence, a “kiss”.

As POASY argues, the government had to take additional and really harsh measures. In fact, they emphasize that they insist on the suspension of all championships as well as the withdrawal of the Police from all sporting events, as serious incidents also occur in basketball and even handball matches.

POASY’s announcement in detail

We anxiously awaited from Saturday, Police and Society, the measures that the government would announce to deal with fan violence, which were supposed to be harsh and put an end to the phenomena of hooliganism and the humiliation of the concept of sport. But we were even more surprised to hear what the main government representative announced.

Obviously the concept of cruelty is ultimately very flexible in its interpretation and application. So flexible that she went so far as to address whether there will be fans at Super League 1 football matches. Has it been so many days since Thursday 7/12/2023 that they forgot that our colleague was seriously injured during a volleyball match or did they forget some that serious incidents also happen at basketball and even handball matches or the worst that death dates take place far from the sports facilities?

With our joint announcement on 8/12/2023 we requested the immediate suspension of all leagues as well as the withdrawal of the Police from all sporting events, until all the irresponsible owners-agents of sports realize that they have the organized state, the institutions and the vast majority of Greek society that rejects all these sick phenomena of violence and criminality in sports.

Instead, a bundle of ‘measures’ was announced just for Super League 1 football matches, ID checks and other minor predictions. So it clearly follows that the Police will continue to be at the sports grounds and burdened with responsibilities that do not belong to them, having to deal with criminal gangs of hooligans who simply will not do their dirty work at football matches but will be free to choose any other sport they desire.

WE CALL once again, with as much intensity as our voice can have, for the government to take additional and this time really tough measures and not “caresses”, like the ones it announced.

You must understand at last that the comb is broken and the knot is lost. If you do not now dare to appear, not cruel but just, towards the healthy part of society, you will never succeed.

Opportunities are rarely given to anyone who dares to seize them when they have to. Otherwise, you too will end up joining all those who looked at the problem fearfully and we got to where we are.
