George Michalakopoulos has received the Karolos Koon Best Actor Award and the “Emilios Veakis” Award
The great actor and director Giorgos Michalakopoulos died at the age of 85.
The news of his death was announced by the president of SEH, Spyros Bibilas, in a post on social media. “A while ago we were informed of the sad news. The tragic loss for Greek culture, our theater and the family of artists: we learned of the departure from the life of the great actor, human being, fighter, trade unionist, head of the family, George Michalakopoulos… The mark he leaves will not be forgotten and we are grateful to him for legacy he leaves us. Heartfelt condolences to his beloved great Athena and his children,” wrote Spyros Bibilas.
George Michalakopoulos was born on February 28, 1938 in Athens and studied acting at the Drama School of the Art Theater. In the theater he had appeared in shows such as “Crime and Punishment”, “Death of the Merchant”, “Every Thursday Mr. Green” and “The Price”.
In the cinema, he participated in films such as “Wake Up Santa”, “The Barber’s Beauty”, “A Knight for Vassula” and “The Look of Odysseus”. On television he starred in the 1970s TV series “He and That”.
He has won the Karolos Koon Best Actor Award and the “Emilios Veakis” award. He was also a Municipal Councilor of Athens (1974-1986) and vice-president of KETHEA.
He was married and has two daughters, Ioanna, who is a director, and Eleni, who is a painter. He has declared that he is a leftist, but does not belong to any party.
