Police patrols and checks are intensified during the holidays in places where there is increased commercial-shopping traffic or festive events are held.

The General Police Directorate of Thessaloniki gives protection and safety advice of the citizens, in view of the festive season of Christmas, New Year and Epiphany.

Police are calling on citizens to, among other things:

– be “suspected”,

– not to have large sums of money with them and

– be especially careful in crowded areas.

In particular, he advises them, during their visit to the market, to be careful with their transactions, to protect their bags and wallets, while leaving home for holidays to secure windows and doors and not to make their absence widely known.

Daily police checks are also foreseen to prevent the phenomenon of side-trade, the formation of control crews for the implementation of anti-smoking legislation, an increase in Traffic measures along the National and Provincial road network, but also on the main roads of the city and the formation of special crews for the control of the most dangerous offences, such as breaking the speed limit, driving under the influence of alcohol, not using a seat belt and a protective helmet.

In addition, the Emergency Lane will be policed ​​to facilitate the movement of emergency vehicles.
