Details on which roads need chains – The recommendations of the Traffic Authority
Traffic regulations have been put in place since Saturday night on several roads in northern Greece and for this reason relevant notices have been issued by the local Police Service (G.A.D. and G.E.P.A.D.) namely, until this time applies:
– traffic ban on all types of trucks with a maximum weight of more than 1.5 tons, as well as all buses, on the Thessaloniki Ring Road, from the height of Junction K-13 (Agios Pavlos Hospital) to the height of the Vegetable Market Junction , of the territorial jurisdiction of the Thessaloniki Traffic Directorate, from 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (01-20-2024) until the weather subsides. – mandatory provision of all vehicles with anti-skid chains or other similar anti-skid means, except for vehicles with special tires (snow tires), in Kilkis, Pella, Pieria, Serres, in Imathia and specifically on Egnatia Odos and the road network of the Municipalities of Veria, Naoussa and Alexandria as well as on the road network of the Municipalities of Polygyros and Aristoteli in Halkidiki, while in some places the traffic of all kinds of trucks with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tons is prohibited
– traffic ban for all types of vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tons, from the Pamvotida Junction (milestone 72.900) to the Panagia Junction (milestone 120.800) of the “Egnatia Odos” highway in both traffic streams. At the same time, the mandatory use of anti-skid chains or other similar anti-skid means is imposed on all vehicles on the above section of the highway.
In areas of Grevena, Kozani, Kastoria and Florina, traffic is carried out only with the use of anti-skid chains or with special type tires, while in some places from 20:15 on Saturday (20-01-2024) all traffic is prohibited of car trucks with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tonnes. At the same time, it is mandatory to equip cars of all categories with anti-skid chains or other similar anti-skid means, as long as these vehicles do not have special tires (snow tires), for the entire road network of the P.E. Grevena, Kastoria, Kozani and Florina.

Prohibition of traffic in parts of the road network of the regional unit of Trikala due to snowfall
The snowfall created problems in the road network of the Trikala Regional Unit.
According to the General Regional Police Directorate of Thessaly, by decision of the Trikala Police Directorate due to the snowfall/frost in parts of the road network within the territorial jurisdiction of the Trikala Municipality, the traffic of vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tons and buses is prohibited in the following locations :
*On the national road Trikalon – Ioannina, from the 28th (Mourgani junction) to the 65th km (A/K Malakasiou).
*On the Murganiou – Grevenon highway, from the 1st (Mourgani junction) to the 24th km.
*On the national road Trikalon – Artas, from the 22nd to the 75th km (Alexiou Bridge).
*On the provincial road Pylis – Mesochoras, from the 16th (place “Pigi ton Theon”) to the 55th km (P.C. Mesochoras).
*On the mountainous provincial road network of the Municipality of Pyli.
*In the entire provincial road network of the former municipalities of Malakasi, Kastania, Hasia, Kleinovo, Tymfaia, the former local community of Aspropotamos and the Kalambakas – Vlahavas Provincial Road of the Meteora Municipality.
The movement of all other vehicles will be carried out using anti-skid chains or other anti-skid means or special tires (snow tires). Roadside assistance vehicles and emergency response vehicles are excluded.
The state of the road network in Western Macedonia
An announcement about the situation in the road network of the Western Macedonia Region by Police Directorate was issued by the police on Saturday night.
Specifically, in the area of ​​Grevena – according to what is mentioned in the announcement of the General Regional Police Directorate of Western Macedonia – the traffic of vehicles is carried out exclusively with the use of a special type of tires or anti-skid vehicle chains on Egnatia Odos, National, Provincial and Municipal road network of P.E. of Grevena.
In addition, from 20:15 on Saturday, a temporary traffic ban for all lorries with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tons applies in both traffic streams: on Egnatia Street, from the 120.8th km (A/K Panagias) to at the 181.1 km (A/K Anatolikos Siatistas) and on the Grevena – Trikala National Highway, from the 5th km to the 40th km. Road assistance, snow removal and emergency vehicles are excluded, as long as they have anti-skid chains or special type tires.
Kastoria
In the area of ​​Kastoria, vehicle traffic is carried out exclusively with the use of a special type of tires or anti-skid chains: on the Kastoria-Florina Provincial Road (via Vitsio), from the 18th km to the 28th km, on the Kastoria-Ioannina Provincial Road ( via Kotylis), from the 32nd to the 48th km, on the Kastoria – Ioannina National Highway, from the 97th to the 113.5th km, throughout the mountainous provincial and municipal road network of the Municipality of Kastoria and throughout the mountainous provincial and mountainous municipal network of the Municipality of Argos Orestikos.
Vehicular traffic on the section of the vertical axis (A-29) of Egnatia Road Siatistas – Krystallopigi, as well as on the rest of the National and Provincial road network, is carried out normally.
Also from 20:15 on Saturday there is a temporary traffic ban for all lorries with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tons in both traffic streams: on the vertical axis of Egnatia Odu Siatistas – Krystallopigi (A-29), from 17, 5th km (A/K Aliakmonas) to 69.3 km (Krystallopigis I/C).
Road assistance, snow removal and emergency vehicles are excluded, as long as they have anti-skid chains or special type tires.
Kozani
Vehicle traffic is carried out exclusively with the use of a special type of tires or anti-skid vehicle chains on Egnatia Road, on the vertical axis of Egnatia Road Kozani – Ptolemaida, as well as on the entire National, Provincial and Municipal road network of the P.E. Kozani.
From 20:15 on Saturday there is also a temporary traffic ban for all lorries with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tons in both traffic streams: in the section of the Kozani – Larisa National Road, from the 25th km to the 51st km ( borders with D.A. Larissa), on the New National Highway of Kozani – Florina (from A/K Koilon to A/K Filota, in both traffic streams of Egnatia Street (A-2) from A/K 9B
East Siatistas up to A/K 13 Polymylos and in both traffic streams of the vertical axis of Egnatia Street (A-29) from A/K 9 A West Siatistas to A/K 2 Aliakmonas.
Road assistance, snow removal and emergency vehicles are excluded, as long as they have anti-skid chains or special type tires.
Florina
Vehicle traffic is carried out exclusively with the use of a special type of tires or anti-skid chains:
– on the National Highway Florina – Border Station Krystallopigi (via Vigla), from the 15th km to the 52nd km, – on the Provincial Road Florina – ‘Ano Kleinos – Akrita (intersection with the National Road Florina – Border Station Krystallopigi), from 1st km to 22nd km, – on the Old Florina – Kozani National Highway (via Kleidi), from 1st km to 34th km, – on the Florina – Kozani National Highway, from 1st km to 38 km., – on the A-27 Florina – Niki highway, – on the Florina – Kastoria Provincial Road (via Vitsi), from the 18th
km. up to the 30th km., – on the entire road network (National – Provincial – Municipal) of the Municipality of Amyntaio and – on the Provincial and Municipal road network of the Municipalities of Florina and Prespa P.E. Florina.
And in this case, from 20.15 on Saturday there is a temporary traffic ban for all lorries with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tonnes in both traffic streams:
– on the Florina – Kastoria National Highway – Krystallopigi Border Station,
– on the New Florina – Kozani National Highway, from the 1st km to the 38th km,
– on the Old National Highway of Florina – Kozani, from the 1st km to the 34th km,
– on the Florina – Ano Kleinos – Akrita district road (intersection with Florina – Krystallopigis E.O.2) and on the A-27 Florina – Nikis highway.
Road assistance, snow removal and emergency vehicles are excluded, as long as they have anti-skid chains or special type tires.
In the announcement of the General Regional Police Directorate of Western Macedonia it is also stated that by decision of the directors of the Police Directorates of Grevena, Kastoria, Kozani and Florina, due to the occurrence of adverse weather phenomena, cars of all categories are required to be equipped with anti-skid chains or other similar anti-skid means , as long as they do not carry special tires (snow tires), for the entire road network of the P.E. Grevena, Kastoria, Kozani and Florina.
