ELAS arrested 32 foreigners during an operation carried out yesterday in Omonia and Metaxourgeio.

As pointed out in the relevant announcement, the operation was carried out in the context of the planning of the General Police Directorate of Attica for the prevention and treatment of crime, it was planned, organized and implemented by the Directorate of Aliens of Attica in cooperation with the Sub-Directorate of Patrols of the Directorate of Police of Athens operational action.

Police forces from the above services, the Security Directorate, the Traffic Directorate, the Direct Action Directorate and the Police Operations Directorate participated in the police operation.

According to the Police, the operation was developed in the areas of Omonia and Metaxourgeio and focused on checks of foreigners, regarding the possession of legal documents for their stay in the country and the detection of drug traffickers, the certification of traffic violations, as well as the prevention of all criminal nature.

658 people were checked, of which 177 foreigners were brought in to check their stay in the country, of which 32 were arrested, in order to apply the administrative measure of return to their country of origin against them, because they lacked legalizing documents to stay in our country, while the rest were mapped and left.

In the context of the operation, two foreigners were additionally arrested – as the case may be – for violating the legislation on addictive substances and on weapons, as well as one foreigner, against whom a prosecution document is pending.

In addition, 28 traffic violations were confirmed for not using a protective helmet, driving license deprivation, non-compliance with a traffic warden’s signal and others.
