The image of the fire that broke out yesterday in a forest area in Sofiko Corinthia has improved, with the fire brigade fighting through the night with scattered outbreaks.

140 firefighters, 6 forest commando teams and 37 vehicles, 2 aircraft and 2 helicopters are continuing the fight to extinguish the fire. They are also supported by project machinery from GEETHA and OTA, as well as volunteers.

Firefighter suffers heart attack – 3 injured

Meanwhile, while fighting the fire, one firefighter suffered a heart attack and three were slightly injured. In particular, according to information, a firefighter originally from Sofiko Corinthia, who tried with his colleagues voluntarily as he was not on shift, suffered a heart attack and was taken to a hospital in Attica. The remaining three injured were transported to Corinth Hospital. In particular, it was a firefighter with traumatic injuries from a fall, a chief firefighter with a broken arm and a seasonal firefighter with minor burns to his hand and face.

The fire broke out around 11:42 on Wednesday and developed in a dense forest area, next to the Epidaurus – Corinth highway.

Shortly after 12 noon a message from 112 rang to citizens in the area to remain on alert.

Regarding the fire, a coordination meeting was held at the Ministry of Climatic Crete and Civil Protection, yesterday afternoon, under the minister Vasilis Kikilia. The meeting was attended by, among other co-competent ministries, officers of the Fire Brigade, ELAS and the Army, representatives of the local government and all the agencies involved.
