The official announcement after a woman was fatally injured by a falling rock due to the heavy downpour that hit the area
The Samaria Gorge will remain closed as a precaution pending an autopsy by experts following the fatal injury of a tourist earlier today.
It is recalled that the visitor to Farangi lost her life after landslides occurred at the site.
Of the total of 1,074 visitors who were there, no other serious injuries were recorded.
By 4:55 p.m., all the visitors had left, except for two people, who were escorted under supervision to the Xyloskalo exit, while 10 people were being accommodated, temporarily, in the village of Samaria.
Teams from the Special Disaster Management Unit (EMAK) and the Fire Department are operating in the area.
As the relevant announcement from the Natural Environment and Climate Change Organization points out, the Gorge will remain closed for precautionary reasons, until an autopsy is carried out by experts from the Hellenic Geological and Mineral Research Authority (EAGME) and by a group of geologists from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
