Fifteen people lost their lives and 585 were injured (14 seriously, 571 slightly) in 521 traffic accidents and accidents, which occurred in September, in the Attica region.

According to ELAS, the main causes of these accidents were driving without prudence and caution, the violation of regulatory signs and the violation of traffic rules by pedestrians, while the non-use of a protective helmet by the drivers and passengers of the two-wheelers aggravated, in many cases , the severity of their injury.

At the same time, in the same period of time, as part of the targeted actions implemented by the Attica Traffic Directorate for traffic policing and upgrading the level of road safety in the Attica region, 28,928 violations were confirmed, of which 1,195 were misdemeanors.

Indicatively confirmed:

  • 876 violations for driving under the influence of alcohol, of which 69 were misdemeanors,
  • 1,588 speed limit violations,
  • 307 offenses for breaking a red light,
  • 461 offenses for mobile phone use,
  • 1,037 violations for not using a seat belt,
  • 2,919 violations for not wearing a protective helmet and,
  • 123 offenses for dangerous maneuvers.

Also, as emphasized in the relevant announcement, in controls carried out from the morning of Friday (27/9) to the early hours of Monday (30/9), 292 vehicles were immobilized and removed:

  • 151 license plates,
  • 324 driving licenses and
  • 284 traffic permits.

Additionally, at noon on Sunday (29/9) a 43-year-old man was arrested by police officers of the Attica Road Traffic Department, who was found by a breathalyzer test to be driving under the influence of alcohol and during a traffic control assaulted the police officers with insults and threats, moving threateningly towards them, while it was found that his driver’s license had been revoked.
