The municipality of Athens will welcome 2025 with silent fireworks, in order not to upset the city’s animals.

According to the announcement of the municipality, the celebration on New Year’s Eve will take place at Syntagma, where the mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, together with artists who will participate in the celebration, will count down the change of time.

This year, the established New Year’s event of the city brings to its heart a musical theater multi-spectacle, the “Terrace of Time”, signed by Phoebus Delivorias.

The beloved artist, together with Natassa Bofiliou, Martha Frintzilas and Thanasis Alevras, presents an original show that, through songs, dances and humorous moments, will take us on a journey through the history of Athens, from 1945 to 2025.

The big event for New Year’s Eve will be opened musically by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens, creating the ideal introduction to the festive evening. Immediately after the show, Laternative will take over for the first big party of the year. The successful radio duo of EnLefko 87.7, Stavros Dioskouridis and Panagiotis Menegos, comes with a dynamic dj set that will keep the rhythm alive in the early hours of the new year.

The 2025 welcome event is accessible to everyone, with a parallel performance in Greek Sign Language by the interpreter Sofia Robolis and will be broadcast via livestreaming from the official page of the Municipality of Athens on Facebook (@cityofathensofficial) and its official YouTube channel.

What will we see on the “Roof of Time”

Music, theatre, comedy, dance, screenings and special guests in special roles! Phoivos Delivorias wrote especially for the night of the 2025 reception a fantastic music “time machine”, dedicated to Athens, directed by Angelos Triantaphyllos. Inside an impressive vehicle – set by Angelos Mentis and with alternating costumes by Alexandra Ftoulis, Phoebus, as a “pilot” – presenter – singer, travels from era to era of Athens (from the Liberation to the “golden” 60s, in the seven years, Postcolonialism and Change, up to the years of the “bubble” and the crisis) looking for the 2025, through favorite Greek songs of each period. In his journey, which begins in 1945, he meets “light” and “modern” singers embodied by Natassa Bofiliou, “folk divas” brought to life by Martha Frindzila, but also typical personalities of each era into whom Thanasis Aleuras transforms. Against the backdrop of images from Greek films, current events and documentaries that present Athens in each of its eras, the “Terrace of Time” is also accompanied by a 10-member orchestra consisting of leading Greek soloists under the direction and orchestrations of Thymios Papadopoulos, dancers under the guidance of Evi Soulis and talented young singers. Meeting point at Syntagmat Squarefrom 22:00, to welcome 2025 all together!
