From vacation the trial for the so-called “45” of the former Prefectural Self-Government of Thessaloniki and the main defendants, the brothers Panagiotis and Dionysis Psomiadis, when they served – respectively – as prefect and vice-prefect, is adjourned.

The case was heard at the beginning of this month and was adjourned to start today before the Three-member Court of Criminal Appeals of Thessaloniki. However, at the beginning of the evidentiary process, the advocate of the Psomiadis brothers cited a health problem in the person of the former prefect, so the process was interrupted (again) for the November 28.

The so-called “45s” date from the period 2007-2010.

It is, according to the indictment, about projects divided into several smaller ones, worth up to 45 thousand eurosin order to be given with direct assignments and draft contests to specific ones contractors.

The case file includes 456 such projects, as well as some employee project contracts, with the damage for the public to have been determined to 6.5 million euros. Four other people are accused of the same case.

The case with the specific projects is not the only legal adventure of the two brothers, as it is also pending second case file against them, which concerns recruitment of employees during their tenure in the Prefectural Government of Thessaloniki.

For this case, they had been acquitted in an earlier period, but the Supreme Court annulled the exculpatory decision, as a result of which they returned to the audience. The trial was announced last week and adjourned until November 21.
