On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, the diagnostic examinations for students of the 6th grade of Primary schools and the 3rd grade of Gymnasiums will be held, at the national level.

The diagnostic examinations will concern the cognitive subjects of Modern Greek Language and Mathematics, and aim at the valid and reliable diagnosis of the knowledge, abilities and skills of our students, according to the expected learning outcomes. Thus, for the first time in the Greek educational system, it will be possible to formulate improvement interventions on the basis of measurable, reliable and representative data. The “Greek PISA” completes the package of reforms of the Ministry of Education and Science of the last almost 3 years in terms of continuous and comprehensive feedback and evaluation of the country’s education system in all its aspects, as a culmination of the philosophy that no system can be improved without first evaluated.

For the school year 2021-22, 6,000 students from 600 schools in the country, 300 Primary Schools and 300 High Schools will participate in the diagnostic examinations. The selected schools are a representative sample of all schools in the country, by level of education, and were selected by a Scientific Committee.

The results of the exams are anonymous and are not taken into account by the teachers when evaluating the performance of the students / three in the specific courses. The diagnostic examinations will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of reference number 16469 / DG4 (Government Gazette B ‘877 / 25-2-2022) Ministerial Decision of the Deputy Minister Zetta Makri, as well as with clarifying instructions which will be sent to the Directors / of the school units that will participate in the diagnostic tests.

The Minister of Education and Religions, Niki Kerameos, stated: “We are starting a new institution, aiming to draw conclusions about the course of implementation of the curricula and the degree to which the expected learning outcomes are achieved. Through modern educational tools, we will be able to utilize the findings of this nationwide process, in order to improve the curricula, teaching methodology, educational material, but also to carry out targeted training activities for our teachers. “By knowing the strengths and weaknesses of our education system, we can plan our policies more fully and accurately and achieve more, for the benefit of our children and the entire educational community.”
