“I will reiterate the urgent need for bold initiatives at European level, such as imposing a ceiling on the wholesale price of gas,” the prime minister said as he attended the summit.
The Prime Minister addressed a message to Turkey to listen to the international persuasions and to de-escalate its provocative rhetoric Kyriakos Mitsotakis, coming to Summit in Brussels. The Greek Prime Minister pointed out that Greece is fully satisfied with the draft conclusions that he asks Turkey to stop questioning our national sovereignty and at the same time, noted that he will inform our partners about the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean.
“I will inform the European Council about the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean”, said Mr. Mitsotakis and added: Athens is fully covered by the draft conclusions, which clearly asks Turkey to stop questioning the sovereignty and territorial integrity of EU countries.
and return to a process of de-escalation with full respect for international law. And I hope that Turkey will listen to these pleas this time, because only in this way will the tension in the Eastern Mediterranean be reduced during these months, with the sole fault of the neighboring country.
On the economy, inflation and accuracy, the Prime Minister said:
We will have the opportunity tomorrow in the context of the Euro summit. to discuss developments on the economic front European economies are facing precision and inflation. The budget possibilities to deal with a finite crisis We have already implemented an important national plan with three initiatives: fuel pass, power pass and replacement of energy consuming air conditioners and together with tax cuts combined with a tax cut policy that has been launched provide a framework to support income-capping accuracy
But because it is a problem, the root cause is due to the very high prices of natural gas that carry away and the electricity will bring back the urgent request for bold initiatives at European level such as the imposition of a ceiling on the wholesale price of gas. It is an issue we have been discussing for a long time, there has not been the necessary mobility
I think all members now understand that a coordinated European response is needed to tackle household and business problems as much as possible.
At the same time, Mr. Mitsotakis noted that the current European Council has a special significance as we will unanimously confirm the granting of the status candidate country in Ukraine and Moldova.
It is a very important political decision taken by the EU in response to Russia’s overt invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine has the right to claim membership of the European family. And the decision sends a clear message from the EU not only to support Ukraine in this difficult time, but also to open a door for the Ukrainian people to claim membership in a united Europe.
The full text of the Prime Minister’s statement follows:
The current European Council is of particular importance, as we will unanimously confirm the granting of candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova. It is a very important political decision taken by the European Union in response to Russia’s overt invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine has the right to claim membership of the European family and the decision to grant it candidate status sends a clear message from the European Union, not only to Ukraine in support of this difficult situation, but also to open a door to the Ukrainian people can now claim membership in a united Europe.
We will also have the opportunity to discuss a number of other issues of geopolitical interest. I will also brief the European Council on developments in the eastern Mediterranean. Athens is fully covered by the draft Conclusions, which clearly asks Turkey to stop questioning the sovereignty and territorial integrity of European Union countries and to return to a process of de-escalation, with full respect for international law. And I really hope that Turkey will listen to these persuasions this time, because only in this way will it be possible to reduce the tension that has been created in the eastern Mediterranean over the last two months, with the sole fault of the neighboring country.
From there on, we will have the opportunity tomorrow, in the context of the Euro Summit, to discuss developments on the economic front. European economies are facing the spectrum of precision and inflation. The possibilities for budgets to deal with this crisis are finite.
In our country we have already launched a very important National Support Program for households and businesses which manifests itself in many different directions. Only at the moment are they running, in terms of government policy, three initiatives: the Fuel Pass, the Power Pass, but also the replacement of energy-intensive air conditioners.
All of this, combined with the government’s tax reduction policy, provides a framework for supporting households and businesses in the face of the onslaught of income.
But because this is a European problem. As the root cause of this problem lies in the extremely high gas prices that entail the prices of electricity, I will reiterate – together with the Italian Prime Minister – the urgent call for bold initiatives at European level, such as the imposition of a ceiling on wholesale price of natural gas.
This is an issue that we have been discussing for a long time, unfortunately so far there has not been the necessary mobility. I want to hope that now all the members of the European Council recognize the need for a coordinated European response that can support national budgets, so as to reduce, as far as possible, the negative effects of precision on our households and businesses. us.
