Dendias: We support the candidacy of Odessa as a World Heritage Site

“Greece supports the candidacy for the inclusion of the historic center of Odessa in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, by providing expertise with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture,” points out N. Dendias with his post on Twitter.

The emblematic building of the Opera House in Odessa, which was inaugurated during the mayorship of Maraslis, was visited by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias during his visit to the city.

“Greece supports the candidacy for the inclusion of the historic center of Odessa in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, by providing expertise with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture,” points out N. Dendias with his post on Twitter.

Also, during his visit to Odessa, the foreign minister met with the mayor of the city, Gennady Trukanov. “Discussion on the centuries-old presence of the Greek diaspora in the city and the important position it holds in the history of our country”, says N. Dendias in his post.

Also, Nikos Dendias visited the National Scientific Library of the city and was guided to the Maraslis Greek archive, while he attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Greek Consulate General and the State Archives of Odessa, for the digitization of archives of Greek interest, with funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Afterwards, the Minister of Foreign Affairs met with the head of the Regional Military Administration of the Odesa Region. The focus of the meeting was the situation on the ground and Greece’s readiness to help export Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea ports as soon as conditions allow.

H visit of N. Dendias to Odessa started with the meeting with representatives of expatriate organizations.

“Reiterating the undivided support of Greece, I discussed with them the challenges faced by the Greek diaspora after the Russian invasion of Ukraine” notes N. Dendias in a post.

Afterwards, he met with expatriates who were forced to leave their homes in Mariupol, to listen to their experiences and to assure them that Greece will continue to care for their well-being and provide them with assistance now and in the future.
