The Minister of Digital Governance stated that so far 25,200 identity cards and 19,400 driver’s licenses have been digitized, only within a few hours by citizens with a TIN expiring 1.
A total of 44,000 digital IDs and digital driving licenses have been “downloaded” by citizens in the application since yesterday Gov.gr Wallet, as he said speaking on SKAI and on the show “Today”the Minister of Digital Governance Kyriakos Pierrakakis.
Specifically, the minister stated that so far they have been digitized 25,200 identity cards and 19,400 driving licensesonly within a few hours from citizens with an expiring 1.
He also estimated that the number of people who downloaded the application is multiple, while he noted that from today citizens whose TIN expires in 2 will also have access to it.
As to whether these digital documents will gradually be able to be used for traveling abroadMr. Pierrakakis emphasized that many EU countries are interested in adopting the initiative of the Greek government with the Gov.gr Wallet, adding that “soon we will be able to travel abroad with them as well”.
The minister also spoke of a very important change as, as he said, the identity card and driver’s license are for the first time verifiable documents, that is, one can confirm that they are genuine.
In addition, in case of theft or loss of the mobile phone, the minister assured that the citizen is not at risk as the digital document is easily revoked by entering gov.gr, while the application must “read” the citizen’s face to open it.
He also revealed that gradually all certificate documents will be able to have a digital format.
Regarding the unique Citizen Number, the minister stated that the law has been passed and a presidential decree is pending so that some technical arrangements can be made. “We’re not far,” he said.
