Theodorikakos: The behavior of those who close the ramps for the disabled is provocatively inhuman

by

The Minister of Citizen Protection Takis sent today a double message that the violations that mainly concern the occupation of the passages of the disabled by unconscious drivers will end and at the same time that a new chapter begins in the communication of the police authorities with the deaf or people with serious hearing problems. Theodorikakos, after a meeting he had with the president of the Federation of the Deaf of Greece, Konstantinos Simpsis, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The minister described the behavior of those who do not respect the ramps of the disabled as provocatively inhuman and uncivilized and pointed out that the Traffic Police certifies 1,500 such violations a year.

Immediately after the meeting, a meeting was held at the ministry, in the presence of the Secretary General of Public Order, Konstantinos Tsouvalas, during which a communication guide of the police services with the deaf and hard of hearing was presented.

According to Mr. Theodorikakos, this guide was prepared in collaboration with the Federation of Persons with Severe Hearing Impairments and was sent to all police stations in the country, so that all our fellow citizens can communicate with the police in sign language.

At the same time, the minister stressed, through two applications on Whatsapp and Viber, the possibility of these citizens to communicate with the center, known to all of us “100” of Immediate Action, to be served whenever they are in danger or need the support of the Greek Police.

The Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakos, after his meeting with Mr. Simpsis stated:

“Unfortunately, every month there are about 1,500 violations by our fellow citizens, who close the ramps for people with disabilities on the sidewalks and streets.

This is provocatively inhuman and uncivilized behavior. It is a common bet and a great challenge for everyone to end this situation and very quickly reach the number 1,500 to zero. So that our fellow human beings who need the ramps have the necessary freedom of movement in public space, as we all have.

The second message is particularly relevant to our fellow citizens who are deaf or have severe hearing problems. We are interested in being able to be fully served by the services of the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Greek Police “.

According to the Ministry of Citizen Protection, the guide for the communication of the police authorities with deaf and hard of hearing citizens, aims to consolidate the feeling of security and to facilitate the daily life of this social group.

In particular, this guide includes the main points of communication between deaf and hard of hearing citizens with the police authorities, as well as brief communication tips between the two parties, in both Greek and English.
