As SKAI’s correspondent in Turkey reports, the messages arriving from Washington are not positive for Ankara, and that is why Erdogan has reached the point of using unusually high tones for the USA.
Her particular importance which his speech had Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in an event – blockbuster for the 100th anniversary of the victory of the Turkish forces in 1922, explained the correspondent of SKAI in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis.
This was not just another provocative speech with rhetorical crowns, but in essence Erdogan presented a “manifesto” on foreign policy of his country in relation to Greece and the USA.
All of Erdogan’s incendiary reports, whether about the “locking” of Turkish fighters from the Greek S-300, or about the supply of F-35s from our country, ended up in the USA itself and in Washington’s armament “block” in Ankara.
The Turkish president tried to discredit Greece by claiming that it is not a country equal to Turkey, neither politically, nor economically, nor militarily.
“The Greek politicians who destroyed themselves and their country a century ago, unfortunately we see that they persist in the same mistake today. As we always say. Greece is not our equal, it is not our interlocutor, not on a political, not on an economic, and not even on a military level.” said the Turkish president.
Erdogan is especially annoyed by the speed with which Greece’s armament program is progressing. It is characteristic that when Ankara decided on the F-35 co-production with the USA 15 years ago, Greece did not even have in its plans the purchase of Rafale, Belhara, missile systems and F-35.
The only announcement made by Greece at the time was a program to modernize the F-16s. Today, 15 years later, Turkey is left out and Greece is moving forward with very fast procedures.
With clear targeting, Turkey and Erdogan claim that Turkish fighters were “locked” by the Greek S-300 and therefore it is a hostile action against a NATO country, so Greece increases the tension in the Aegean.
“Our F-16 aircraft, carrying out NATO missions in the international airspace of the Aegean, were locked by the radars of the Russian-made S-300 missile systems deployed by Greece in Crete. Locking a country’s plane with radar is hostile behavior. Especially if this aircraft is also carrying out a NATO mission, then it means that this hostile action has been made against NATO and all its members. Greece, increasing its hostile attitude, which started with the violation of our airspace as well as with the harassment of our aircraft and even reached the blocking of our aircraft by the S-300 radar, actually provoked NATO and the allies . If he has this ability and power,” he emphasized.
Ankara seeks either to use the Russian S-400 system, or to succeed in convincing the US for the F-35.
However, as SKAI correspondent Manolis Kostidis reports, the messages arriving from Washington are not positive for Turkey and that is why Tayyip Erdogan has reached the point of using unusually high tones for Washington.
“They say they won’t give us the F-35s, they say they’re reacting to the alternative weapons systems we’re getting. They say they are embargoing issues that border on stupidity. We clearly don’t care and don’t care about any of that!”, said the Turkish president.
In any case, Erdoğan’s discomfort is particularly great and he is now trying to extract profits, in a particularly difficult year for him, with inflation at unimaginable levels and elections approaching.
In the speech-manifesto, he clearly mentions that there may be other paths for Turkey, meaning Vladimir Putin’s Russia.
“Now we are anxiously awaiting how America itself will respond to the activation of the S-300 systems by Greece against a NATO air force. In addition, the US, by offering Greece the F-35s it did not give us, opened the way for Russian air defense systems to get in the same bag as these planes, which they were supposed to avoid. We would never, ever use the F-35 and the S-400 in the same environment, as we promised the country that supplied us. But, no one should doubt that Greece, which has no legal, moral or humanitarian limits, will not commit this risky action.”
