Regarding what the official opposition leader said about war in Ukraine, the minister commented that at a time when the defensive mood is being strengthened in Europe, Mr. Tsipras did not say anything about it but insisted that we should not be among those who strengthen Ukraine.

“Mr. Tsipras did not send from the International Exhibition of Thessaloniki the message of unity that we would have expected regarding the Greek-Turkish language”, said the deputy foreign minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis on SKAI 100.3 radio and Dimitris Oikonomou and Akis Pavlopoulos.

At the same time, he added that “the president of SYRIZA blamed the government for the lack of communication channels between Greece and Turkey, while the prime minister in his speech said the exact opposite, that is, we are open to dialogue with Turkey”.

Regarding what the official opposition leader said about war in Ukraine, the minister commented that at a time when the defensive mood in Europe is being strengthened, Mr. Tsipras did not say anything about it but insisted that we should not be among those who strengthen Ukraine.

“We have become the south-eastern bulwark of the Alliance, towards Turkey, and Mr. Tsipras does not share that,” he said characteristically.

Mr. Varvitsiotis also strongly criticized the recent incident with the immigrants in Evros.

“The NGO that accused us of abandoning migrants on the islet, admitted that it was not Greek territory, however Mr. Tsipras did not say a word about the fact that Turkey is instrumentalizing immigration,” the minister said.

“He goes to Thessaloniki, promises things he can’t do and the next day he is the first to overtax what the Greek citizen has in his pocket,” concluded Mr. Varvitsiotis.
