The Prime Minister reiterated that Athens is open to dialogue, but will not tolerate any questioning of its sovereignty
The Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis made his first visit to Lithuania, sealing the completion, this year, of 100 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In his meetings both with him President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausedaas with its counterpart, Ingrida Šimonytéthe exceptional level of Greece-Lithuania relations and the common challenges faced by the two countries, such as the energy crisis and the instrumentalization of migration flows, were confirmed.
Government sources state that the possibility of making investments in infrastructure, new technologies and Renewable Energy Sources was also discussed, taking into account the emergence of our country as an energy transfer hub through the infrastructure it is developing, as well as the need to diversify energy sources and dependence on Russian fossil fuels.
The same sources note that during the meeting of Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the Prime Minister of Lithuania, there was consensus on the need for a unified European response to the high energy prices and excessive fluctuations caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Prime Minister pointed out that its multi-level support The European Union towards Ukraine must continue in order to restore the country’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis informed his interlocutors about the latest developments in Turkey’s aggressive behavior and rhetoric in the Eastern Mediterranean and the questioning of Greek sovereignty.
He reiterated that our country is always open to consultation and dialoguewill not accept, however, a challenge to its sovereignty.
Also, opinions were exchanged based on the experiences of the two countries in the management of migration and the need for a coordinated response to the challenges at the EU’s external borders and the instrumentalization of migration flows was highlighted.
The Prime Minister was also briefed on energy infrastructure security issues at the NATO Center of Excellence for Energy Security.
