The garden of the Presidential Palace was visited today, Sunday, November 20, 2022, by the children from the SOS Children’s Village of Vari, on the occasion of World Rights Day child’s. The children had the opportunity to play, have fun and share moments of joy and carefreeness with other children and to meet the president of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
Photos from today’s visit of the children to the Garden of the Presidential Palace were posted on social media by the President of the Republic.
“Today, International Children’s Day, the garden of the Presidential Palace was dedicated to the best tomorrow of this world, the children. They came from the SOS Children’s Village of Vari, with bright faces, ready to face the miracle everywhere, in a flower, a butterfly, a game, they played and had fun for a long time. Other children came with them and shared moments of carefree and joy. Seeing them, the thought inevitably turns to those little beings who have known from their tender age the darker and wilder side of life. Children abused, neglected, scared, condemned to an immense, gloomy loneliness”, Ms. Sakellaropoulou characteristically wrote.
He also emphasized that “violence against children, verbal, physical, sexual, is a permanent crime. Its impact on the victim as well as on society extends over time, sealing indelibly the soul of those who suffer it and stigmatizing our collective life. Days like today cannot be spent in wishful thinking and empty proclamations. Let us not turn a deaf ear to the silent cry of these children. Let us respect their inalienable right to a protected innocence. Let’s give all children a family, a loving and caring environment in which they will flourish and thrive in the most important, formative years of their lives. By building a harmonic present for the child we are not just fulfilling a social duty. We are laying the foundations for a brighter future, for a better world.”
