In the most official way, through the representative of the Turkish presidency, Ibrahim Kalin, Turkey threatens Greece with serious consequences if it decides to “extend territorial waters in Crete”.

According to what SKAI’s correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis, reports, Kalin in a fierce statement stated that “there will be serious consequences for Greece. We will resist fiercely, we will not accept it.”

To the journalist’s question, what will be Turkey’s response if Greece expands its territorial waters in Crete, Kalin replied: “The foreign minister also said recently, that any extension of more than 6 miles, not 12 miles, will face the direct objection, opposition and fierce resistance from Turkey.

Let’s make it clear. Leave 12 miles, it is not possible to accept if they extend them over 6, 7, 8 and 9 miles. And this will have serious consequences for Greece. We wait and hope they don’t resort to such a path. If they take steps in this direction, we will never leave them unanswered.

In addition, Kalin said that if Greece extends “territorial waters to Crete, our ships will enter the Mediterranean from Greek territorial waters.”

“We will not accept it. It is against international law,” he added.

“Because the extension of Crete to 12 miles means that a ship of ours or an international ship starting from the Black Sea, the Marmaras or our own regions in the Aegean, to reach the Mediterranean will only have to pass through Greek territorial waters . We cannot accept this. It is against international law, the law of the sea and customary law,” Kalin said.
