The European Parliament passed a resolution calling for the creation of a special international court to investigate the responsibilities of Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko for the atrocities in Ukraine.

According to the ND, among the exceptions from the overwhelming majority who voted in favor of the special court were 4 SYRIZA MEPs: D. Papadimoulis, S. Kouloglou, E. Kountouras and A. Georgoulis who abstained. The ruling party is asking the SYRIZA president to clarify his position regarding the Russian president.

The ND’s announcement in detail

“The resolution of the European Parliament in favor of the urgent establishment of a Special International Court in order to prosecute V. Putin and A. Lukashenko passed with 472 votes in favor, 19 against, while 33 MEPs abstained from voting. Among the exceptions from the overwhelming majority and 4 MEPs of SYRIZA: D. Papadimoulis, S. Kouloglou, E. Kountouras and A. Georgoulis who abstained. We expect the president of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, to clarify whether he believes that President Putin is committing war crimes and whether he should be brought before a special court, or whether he also joins the ambivalent attitude he has maintained since the first moment of the Russian invasion.”
