Mitsotakis’ message to Turkey: Greece wants good relations, but will not dialogue with the absurd

Teleconference of the prime minister with the heads of Greek authorities abroad

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke today with the heads of Embassies and Permanent Missions of Greece abroad, consistent with his commitment to establish this initiative, which he undertook last year for the first time, on an annual basis in order to communicate with the heads of diplomatic authorities and to hear their perspective on the missions in which they serve.

“I am especially glad that we are given the opportunity for this second online meeting. I had found our discussion last year extremely productive. I was able to communicate directly with you, to share thoughts but above all to hear very interesting opinions and proposals from you”, the Prime Minister emphasized at the start of the teleconference, the aim of which is to better coordinate with the heads of the authorities for the better promotion of the national goals and positions.

The Prime Minister emphasized the great importance he attaches to the international promotion of Greece, at every opportunity and in all fora. “My vision is a dynamic and extroverted Greece, which will be an equal international interlocutor and co-shape developments with initiatives and actions but above all with dynamism and self-confidence”, noted Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

In this context, he noted that from his contacts with foreign leaders and business actors it is now clear that the positive image of Greece is being consolidated and the belief that our country has turned a page.

Referring to the international challenges faced by Greek diplomacy, the Prime Minister reiterated Greece’s firm support to Ukraine, stressing that the unjustified Russian invasion constitutes a violation of International Law at the expense of a sovereign state, which is fighting for its territorial integrity and independence of.

He emphasized that Greece, which often receives threats against its sovereignty and sovereign rights, cannot but stand by Ukraine, sending a clear message that the international community cannot under any circumstances accept revisionism and delinquency.

The Prime Minister underlined the initiatives taken by our country to mitigate the consequences of the energy crisis caused by the war, both at the European and regional level. He pointed to the intensification of energy diplomacy, which has contributed to the transformation of Greece into a provider of energy security and energy exporter for the states of South-Eastern Europe, taking advantage of the strategically important infrastructures being developed for LNG inflow and power generation.

Regarding Turkey, Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that 2022 was a difficult year for bilateral relations. He reiterated that Greece wants good relations with the neighboring country, based on International Law, but does not intend to engage in dialogue with the absurd.

The Prime Minister thanked the Greek diplomats and all the Authorities of our country abroad for their work and the efforts they make to promote the national positions and to boost the role of Greece abroad.
