Conflict and confrontation instead of a united front against the Kasidiari formation is expected today in the Parliament, despite the common starting point and common will of all the parties of the democratic arc, every element of Nazism and fascism to stay out of Parliament. This will, however, ultimately does not speed up the much-desired consensus and unanimity so that all parties can send out their anti-fascist message even more loudly and vote together on the amendment that will stop the aspirations of Kasidiaris and his like-minded people.

This climate has been reflected inside and outside the Parliament since the government’s supplementary regulation on the brake on the neo-Nazi formation was submitted, while it is expected to culminate amid objections and reactions today in the Plenary Session of the Parliament, when the parties will face their responsibilities and they are invited to take a stand not only with their positions but also with the vote they will ultimately give. So far, however, the amendment is expected to be supported only by the government’s majority SW and PASOK-KINAL while the SYRIZA intends to abstain from the vote and the KKE, Hellenic Solution and MeRA25 to vote against.

In any case, the government’s aim during today’s meeting and in the pre-election debate that is already underway is, on the one hand, to put a strong wall on the criminal organization Golden Dawn and its successors or covert exponents, but also to simultaneously broadcast the message of responsibility and determination that it advocates against the other parties that “choose the dykes in the consensus” as a government official commented.

Already yesterday, through the mouth of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis from Evosmos, the government hastened to pose the dilemma to the other parties: facing the Golden Dawn or “turning a blind eye” by calling them together to vote on the government regulation. “Tomorrow in the Parliament, each and every one will take their responsibility” said the prime minister and added that “Those who will not vote for this amendment are the same ones who finally turn a blind eye to the “Golden Dawn”. They are the ones who ultimately want this form to be found in the parliament somehow. I want to remind in the past whenever needed he accompanied them. Together they voted to bring down the government of Antonis Samaras. And for the changes to the electoral law, they had agreed together” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis, setting the tone for the debate that will be held today in the Parliament, during which it is possible that the political leaders will also be positioned.
