The president of PASOK-KINAL emphasizes that the priority is a strong social state on the standards of Western European countries, “with the immediate need for the regeneration of the National Social Security System”.

In detail, the article by the president of PASOK – KINAL, Nikos Androulakis

“In the May 21 elections, we took the first step towards the rebirth of the Democratic Party. Citizens showed their trust in our new effort. But the race has now begun.
We have before us the goal on June 25 for PASOK to become the strong, reliable, progressive force that will face maintenance, populism, meritocracy and the client state, which stand in the way of the well-being and perspective of the Greek people.
We are fighting for a state that respects the citizen and ensures his rights and the opportunities he needs in his life. With strong institutions that put barriers to the uncontrollable power and a rule of law that will work without exceptions of impunity for the powerful.
To strengthen transparency, we propose the establishment of Transparency in all sectors of the State. So that Greek men and women know how their taxes are spent and that what New Democracy did in these four years not be repeated: 10 billion in direct assignments or closed and non-transparent procedures.
We are the only ones who have proposed filling the positions of Governors of Hospitals and Public Organizations through international competitions lasting two months and with a 5-year term.
The wiretapping scandal has shown how easy it is to slip into authoritarian practices that offend European values and the rule of law. That is why we need to strengthen the separation of powers as well as the Independent Authorities so that they can effectively perform their constitutional role.
The successive crises experienced by humanity create new data in the global economy. We need to lay the foundations for a resilient, outgoing, productive model.
Until 2027, our country will receive over 70 billion euros in European funding from the Recovery Fund, the NSRF and the Common Agricultural Policy. If they are used properly, we will be able to have an economy, which will not be based on real estate investments but on viable and sustainable development, capable of creating many and good jobs for the new generation to create in their place.
To achieve this, infrastructure investments are required, such as the electricity network that will allow the diffusion of electricity generation from RES throughout society through the energy communities of municipalities, farmers, breeders, producers and also residential photovoltaics.
In this way we ensure that energy production will not be the privilege of the elite few – as it is today – and at the same time we protect citizens from international fluctuations in energy prices, giving additional incentives to save and making the socially just, green transition a reality.
We also need to link tourism with the other sectors of the economy and especially with the primary sector and manufacturing.
To set quality measurable goals. Not only to celebrate the millions of visitors, but those who taste our quality processed products, then become ambassadors in their country, boosting exports, giving added value to tourism and increasing revenue throughout the territory and not just in specific areas .
In this context, a few days ago I visited the Toplou Monastery where they standardize oil and wine, the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Rethymno with the well-known cheeses, the Mastic Applications Research Center in Chios with the specialized products and the Honey Museum in Rhodes.
We also believe in the need for a fairer tax system. For this reason we recommend:
-Tax reduction for families with children to provide incentives and address demographics. It is not allowed in our country for the difference in tax rates between a family with two children and a family without children to be 3%, while in other countries with similar problems the said difference is from 10 to 20 units.
-Easing the burden on wage labor through the reduction of contributions, in order to have better wages and to deal with the widespread phenomenon of undeclared work.
– Reduction of VAT on basic goods for the duration of the crisis, as only in the last year and a half the state has collected an additional 5 billion euros from the overperformance of indirect taxes due to inflation, hitting the most vulnerable and not the rich, according to the irrational economic theory of the staff of Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
We also propose extraordinary taxation of companies such as banks and energy companies, which have been making super profits while citizens have seen their incomes eroded by rising energy prices, inflation and ever-increasing interest rates.
Our priority is a strong social state on the standards of Western European countries.
The Greeks need the rebirth of the NHS as we have the second highest private expenditure in the Union, even rising one place behind only Bulgaria. The tragic events of the last few days have highlighted the deficiencies in EKAB, as 67 places, many of them mass tourist destinations, are covered by just one ambulance. At the same time, thousands of citizens are on lists of shame waiting for an operation. It is typical that at the Papanikolaou Hospital in Thessaloniki, out of the 28 anesthesiologist positions, only 7 are filled.
For this reason, we propose the allocation of 8-10% of the resources of the Recovery Fund for the creation of a strong Primary Health system, the filling of all gaps in personnel with permanent recruitment, the inclusion of health workers in the heavy and unhealthy and substantial incentives for the strengthening of health care in our islands and the remote areas of mainland Greece.
We still aspire to make bold changes in Education with the National Baccalaureate, which will bring the public school back into focus and address inequalities through remedial teaching. We want a safe school environment with psychological and social support services and strong special education structures for the school of inclusion.
The battles we are called to fight and win are battles of ideas and proposals for a safer, fairer and better future.
They are battles for the defense of Democracy, the maintenance of social cohesion, the reduction of inequalities, the strengthening of the welfare state.
They are battles so that maintenance and stagnation and ultimately decline do not prevail.
On June 25, we call on all democrats and progressive citizens to embrace the new effort we are making, responding to the fear and division cultivated by our political opponents with a vote of confidence, certainty and hope.”
