The fines imposed on the parties for illegal poster pollution do not concern only one party, nor do they have a collection logic, but anyone who violates the cleanliness regulation will be fined, the mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, told SKAI, commenting on the KKE’s reactions to the fine imposed by the municipality.

Mr. Bakoyannis questioned whether any party is above the law and explained that since the previous election the parties had been informed about the cleanliness regulation.

He noted that the law was changed in 2022 so in previous encounters the municipality could not impose fines.

He mentioned that this is a battle of attitudes and underlined that it is a measure that needs consistency and from the municipality’s side, it is not a firework.

Mr. Bakoyiannis emphasized that the municipality has allocated to the parties many places in the city where they can advertise, such as bus stops.

He made it clear that offenders can appeal but must pay the fines. Otherwise, the municipality has the right to even proceed with seizing the bank account.

The mayor of Athens also told our station that Athens is now in the top ten of the most attractive conference tourism destinations.

Specifically, Athens rose eight places in the world ranking for conference tourism for 2022 and from 16th place it is in 8th place in the ranking, as it is formed based on the evaluation of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
