Strong criticism of the Ministry of the Interior’s bill for the new system for selecting public sector bodies, for the case of surveillance, the economy, but also the government’s stance on Gaza, was voiced by the president of the SYRIZA PS Committee, Sokratis Famellos. speaking in Parliament on the aforementioned bill.

Mr. Famellos accused the government of legislating partisanship in the state and that the bill defines administrations based on a party mandate, which is linked to the “scheme” of “wasting public money” to “cronies”.

The president of the KO of SYRIZA PS, began his statement by commenting that he was impressed that the prime minister “didn’t say a word about what is happening in our neighborhood and in Gaza”. Mr. Famellos reiterated that “Hamas’ terrorist acts against civilians are absolutely condemnable” and that there can be no “legalization of operations that create even more dead Palestinian civilians. The recognized right to self-defense cannot violate, and even brutally, humanitarian law.” He added that “Greece should support with all its strength the efforts of the UN Secretary-General for an immediate ceasefire, prevention of the humanitarian crisis and the release of the hostages. To restart talks to end the occupation and resolve the conflict in a peaceful manner on the basis of the 1967 border with East Jerusalem the capital of the Palestinian State.” Mr. Famellos said that “it is a strategic mistake with dangerous ramifications for the country and a shame for the Greek people that the Greek Prime Minister does not follow the balanced stance of other European countries, such as France, Spain, Portugal…”. “To meet only the Prime Minister of Israel and not the President of Palestine. To state that whatever happens, it must happen without great human cost, or that ‘a humanitarian truce must be imposed when necessary’. Not to condemn the death of civilians in the Monastery of Agios Porphyrios. Abstain from a UN resolution for a ceasefire,” he continued.

He noted that “Greece’s interest requires it to promote peace, stability and international law in its region. Not to rely on the one-dimensional foreign policy of the given ally, to the detriment of our country’s interests.”

Mr. Famellos commented that today the prime minister tried to change the agenda from the precision, from the insecurity of the society, “but the practiced policy of the government has proven exactly the opposite, you are constantly moving us away from the European acquis”. In this context he referred to the case of wiretapping, commenting that one cannot claim that “inin any European state, the president of an Independent Authority is threatened, publicly and with brutality by government officials, as Mr. Rammos complained to the LIBE Committee of the EP». “Just as I cannot accept that members of an Independent Authority are being prosecuted in Greece because they are exercising their constitutional obligation. I cannot accept that in our country the government with the far-right crutch of the Hellenic Solution intervened with mathematical alchemy and changed the composition of ADAE just a the day before the meeting of the Authority that would have imposed a fine on EYP for the illegal surveillance, for which Maximou is also involved and this has been proven”, he added.

He emphasized that SYRIZA supports the Justice “but the delays of the Justice create concerns for us”. He commented in particular how it is possible for 18 months that the victims and complainants have not been called as witnesses, while they are called as persecuted members of the Independent Authority”. He added that also for many months “there has been no cross-checking of the data of the 92 phones that were attacked by the malicious software with those monitored by the EYP”. He also asked why those who Mr. Mitsotakis has said that it was unacceptable to choose them to follow Mr. Androulakis have not been called. He noted that the government must also provide answers regarding the monitoring of the army chief “or do you not care that the foreign minister and the defense minister and the public prosecutor of the EYP are included in the lists circulated for the predator?”.

He said that these concerns were also expressed by SYRIZA in the meeting they had yesterday with the prosecutor of the Supreme Court, “and we made it clear that we want strong justice, speedy administration of justice and restoration of the sense of justice in society”.

Following the above, the president of SYRIZA’s KO argued that a plan of the Maximos Palace is being implemented in all fields, whether in the independent authorities or at the level of the selection of public administrators for various positions, “his plan is to have the power to distribute to close friends the economic product of Greece”.

He accused the government of a perception of a “spoilt state”, stating that this “is also evident from the way it distributes the funds of the Development Fund, where 86% of the loans of the Recovery Fund are directed to 36 large companies. That is, in companies that already have access to loans, while at the same time a large part of society is impoverished because of the accuracy”. He added that according to Eurostat, inflation in Greece returned to an upward trajectory in October (3.9%), while in the Eurozone it is decreasing (2.9%) and that “while the income of citizens is constantly decreasing, the government stubbornly refuses to intervene in the phenomena of obscene profit”. “Now you also blame the Competition Commission, which you also do not staff”, he commented.

In this context, Mr. Famellos argued that the bill, “which defines administrations based on a party mandate”, is related to this “plan” to waste public money. He spoke of a fast track legislative process, “because you didn’t want dialogue, you want to legislate partisanship in the public sector in positions of responsibility”.

He said that the bill “legislates partisanship in the public administration, it legislates under the cloak of modernization something that the right-wing officials did in a shameful way for years in Greece, it legislates bribery” and the notion that “if you have a beard in Koroni you can do your job”, while “introducing fear into public administration”. He said that Mrs. Kerameos is coming “to legislate that in the public sector and in positions of responsibility people will be selected based on committees, the majority of which will be government officials”.

He commented on what is the “revolution” to which Mr. Mitsotakis refers, “retreating to a one-party state? Or is it a modernization to have only transferable executives selected through unstructured interviews and with a retreat to formal qualifications?». He commented that this is not a revolution, but profound anachronism.

He commented that recently the phenomena of “self-denial” of the ND have been increasing, as last week, as he said, in the tourism bill, he repealed two provisions that he had passed in the previous four years and “now you are bringing the repeal of the law that you had legislated, of 2020 which you did not implement”. “In other words, Mrs. Kerameos is coming to tell us that the previous ministers of the interior did not do their job properly, that is, Mr. Mitsotakis,” he commented.

He said that in the last four years in the field of public administration, the ND government passed a new framework for the selection of supervisors (in Law 4674/2020) “which you applied to 1% of positions of responsibility” and that it did not implement the new law on the selection of Administrations of the State NPs (law 4735/20). In addition, he continued, “the number of switchers has soared to record levels, while their earnings have increased by about 70%.” Also “bypassing ASEP, interference in the work of independent authorities and ‘pandemic’ of direct assignments to friends and associates”.

“You are leaving behind your own laws, leaving behind even the technocratic scientific approach and expanding the centralization of the staff state everywhere,” Mr Famellos said. He noted that, on the contrary, “we want a strong state and developmental state that is modern, durable and fair and obviously follows the rules of law and ASEP, a strong staffed ASEP, an independent and technocratic intervention in the selection and evaluation of better for positions of responsibility”. He said that, however, the ND wants for the public 2,500 trained contracted firefighters to “be unemployed from today because their contract has stopped”, while “there are 3,600 gaps in the organizational chart of the Fire Brigade”.

The president of the KO of SYRIZA emphasized that there are very big differences with the ND regarding the state and public administration: “We act based on the interests of the country and the priorities of science, you act based on the interests that are behind the government you, who tell you in what way the state should wield the economic power of Greece. That’s why you’re moving towards a client party state.” He added that despite the memorandums, the SYRIZA government made “great efforts” for meritocracy in public administration.

Finally, Sokratis Famellos said that SYRIZA is doing everything it can for a quick restart, “to respond to the needs of society and the needs of the responsibility and the role of the official opposition, because we want to submit our proposal for a progressive way out of society ».
