“Tomorrow I will ask the Central Committee to decide to hold a referendum directly from the members and friends of the party on the expulsion of the four officials who have brutally insulted all of us. If the Central Committee refuses, I will proceed with the holding of the referendum at the request of 15% of the members of SYRIZA, exactly as our statute provides.
Kasselakis message via Facebook that tomorrow he will ask the KE to hold a referendum on the dismissal of the four executives “who brutally insulted all of us”
“I am addressing the Greek people.
I am addressing you, the large progressive majority of this place, who want an alternative solution to the Mitsotakis-Voridis-Velopoulos government.
I am addressing you, the 150,000 citizens who waited patiently in queues for hours on two Sundays in a row.
And I address each and every one of you that I have met, listened to, embraced, from Sfakia to Dadia, from Rhodes to Ioannina.
I’ve learned a few things inside out now. And for those of you who think the system is seriously ill, you are sadly right. It is – and a lot.
And the Prime Minister and his family are conveniently sitting at the center of this system.
I came from afar, at the age of 35, to offer what I could for a fairer society.
Inspired by a modest and humble man: Alexis Tsipras, who kept me in his office for hours in January – in front of his colleagues – while I was feeling uncomfortable.
Eventually, his office became my office, mandated from the grassroots, mandated by society itself.
And along with this office I inherited an empty floor. A caught Parliamentary Group. A Political Secretariat, in which comrades hate comrades in parallel monologues lasting 8 hours. Ambitions on the back of the 18% who voted for Alexis.
Faced with this unpleasant reality, society embraced me and gave me a clear command: “Change everything”.
And I will change everything. Clear and in the light!
We will build a Greece together:
- No immunities for bankers and privileges for MPs.
- No impunity for those who abuse citizens’ lives.- No oligopolies in fuel and electricity.
- Without the scourge of corruption and entanglement.
- With clarity everywhere.
- With rules at work, with collective agreements as provided by the European directives, with protection for the employee.
- With a large social state, which will strengthen the NHS and the EKAB, which will put an end to two-speed education.
- With very large investments for the roof, for young people, for climate change.
- With respect to religious belief but a clear separation of Church and State, as is the case in all developed countries.
- With a radically modernized army, so as to effectively protect both the country’s defense and social infrastructure.
- With a country that will once again have a multidimensional foreign policy, that will not be anyone’s “yes man”, that will not be afraid to vote for the ceasefire at the UN.
- With a state that will release all the creative forces of society, that will give opportunities to all citizens to realize their dreams. This is the Greek Dream!
None of this will happen if we don’t all want it and if there is no truth between us. And for this reason you are entitled to the truth, without any evasion.
The official opposition is sick. She is not corrupt like the top of the ND, but she is sick. With executives who insult their own party, their comrades, their legally elected President, but above all the hundreds of thousands of progressive and left-wing citizens who, with such attitudes, are ashamed to say that they are SYRIZA.
In the name of these people, the everyday fighters and not the party offices, I tell you clearly:
I won’t back down! I will fully honor the mandate I received. SYRIZA will become a healthy, united party, where the only trend will be democracy from the grassroots.
The functioning of a party, let alone the Official Opposition, is too serious a matter to become a matter of postponements and intentional or unintentional delays.
For this reason tomorrow I will ask the Central Committee to decide to hold a referendum directly from the members and friends of the party to expel the four officials who have brutally insulted us all. If the Central Committee refuses, I will proceed to hold the referendum at the request of 15% of SYRIZA members, exactly as our statute provides.
On the night of my election I repeated one sentence three times: I will never betray you.
And I repeat this now, more decisively than ever before.
We will make Greece a modern European country. Together. And no one will stop us.”
