“There was no lack of good advice from us when Greece went bankrupt in 2010: ‘Why don’t you sell your islands, bankrupt Greeks?’ was the Bild headline at the time – and we meant it!’
“The (former) bankrupt Greeks are fighting back”, writes Bild under the title: “Bankrupt Germans sell your islands”: The German newspaper mockingly observes: “We had no shortage of good advice when Greece went bankrupt in 2010: ‘Why don’t you sell your islands, bankrupt Greeks?’ was the Bild headline at the time – and we meant it!’
On the occasion of the problems in the German budget caused by a decision of the Constitutional Court deeming the second supplementary budget for 2021 unconstitutional, Panagiotis Lafazanis, Minister of Environment and Energy under Alexis Tsipras, counters and estimates that: “The German government should imposes extraordinary taxes on both citizens and businesses to solve the problem.”
He even predicts that: “This will cause a crisis in Germany, but otherwise the money will not be collected. Another solution would be to sell public property such as islands to raise large sums quickly.”
And the former minister continues: “If the Germans cannot control the situation they will be forcibly placed under the supervision of the troika. Then they will be forced to find solutions.”
Finally, Panagiotis Lafazanis comments: “Life is vengeful. Germany will now experience what it imposed on Greece”. Germany threatens to lead Europe into a “long-term crisis”.
