“In the European elections we will strive to be the official opposition and in the next national elections the government” underlined the President of PASOK-Movement for Change
The president of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, in an interview with the “Editors’ Newspaper” emphasizes that
“Our strategic goal is for the progressive faction to become strong again and defeat New Democracy. We aspire to take another big step in this direction in the European elections. Therefore, our struggle is not limited to just taking second place or certain percentages. We want to become the strategic opponent of maintenance in our country”, emphasizes in an interview the president of PASOK – KINAL, Nikos Androulakis.
Speaking to the “Newspaper of the Editors”, Mr. Androulakis emphasizes that “with New Democracy we not only have political differences, but also differences in the way of exercising power”, noting, among other things, that “everything is the result of the decisions of a closed group around by the prime minister. Even the cabinet seems to have a decorative role.”
Responding to the remark that “however, with today’s data, the sovereignty of the ND does not seem to be threatened” Mr. Androulakis said that “Mr. Mitsotakis and the government are faced with the problems that they have not solved and those that have accumulated”.
He mentioned, among other things, the “non-existence of the university police, the collapse of primary and secondary education, the suffering of thousands of patients in the NHS queue, the fact that the country is a champion in precision and the government’s inability to deal with the acute housing problem”.
“So we have other priorities and we have realistic solutions to respond to these major problems, to guarantee advancement opportunities and well-paid jobs for the majority of the Greek people and above all to create the belts of upward social mobility.”
Especially regarding the housing problem, N. Androulakis said that he has submitted a topical question to the prime minister “for two months now on the matter, but the parliament is ostentatiously ignoring it”.
He said that the PASOK-Movement for Change proposal “aims to reduce the cost of housing for those who are unable to acquire property” and added:
“Furthermore, short-term rental restrictions are needed and it’s time to abolish the golden visa in real estate…yesterday, an initiative that many European states have already taken, seeing the rents at unimaginable heights! The Greek economy is being de-Hellenized and housing costs are skyrocketing, but the government is handling the matter like a real estate agency.”
Regarding the position of PASOK-Movement for Change on the issue of the establishment of non-state universities, he states that “PASOK’s priority, as is the case throughout Europe, is the upgrading and strengthening of all three levels of public education”.
“As far as the map of higher education is concerned, we are in favor of the model that also exists in other countries, where the central pillar is the public university and there are also non-state non-profits, but which operate under very strict criteria” he adds, among other things, N. Androulakis.
With reference to the government’s decision “to remove overnight all the responsibilities of the Municipality of Athens from the company “Anaplasi S.A.”” he characteristically notes that “it is the revelation of the cynicism and arrogance of the Mitsotakis governance model”.
Asked to “which public” does PASOK-Movement for Change primarily address, N. Androulakis replied “we address all Greeks with whom we share concerns, who demand transparency, meritocracy and respect for institutions. The opposition of populism and sprayed scenarios showed its limits”.
“To be strong, the modern Center-Left needs to be pluralistic. To bring together the best traditions from the field of European social democracy, the progressive Center, political ecology, and the democratic Left. Our bet is to inspire citizens with positive speech and concrete proposals, not to simply gather the discontent of individual sections of the electorate,” he added.
N. Androulakis said about the wiretapping scandal that “of course the prime minister is afraid, when Mr. Mitsotakis does not hesitate to make a deal even with Kyriakos Velopoulos in order to beat the ADAE and stop the investigation just before the intersection of his goals predator with the monitoring of the EYP in order to reveal the single center, which lived in the Maximos Palace”.
Asked “what is his response to the exhortation of the president of SYRIZA, Stefanos Kasselakis to file a lawsuit against the prime minister and the EYP”, N. Androulakis said “a party president should know – and if he doesn’t know to ask – that I have filed a lawsuit in July 2022 and a supplementary report in September 2022, where specific criminal acts are reported, which are prosecuted ex officio as soon as they are notified to the Prosecutor, regardless of the title of the indictment. In my supplementary report, the persons – the physical and operational leadership of the EYP and their political superiors – who are responsible for the performance of the specific actions are also named and identified, so that no “question” and no misinterpretation is justified . Any other interpretation is irrelevant to the procedure, but out of slyness, as it uncritically adopts the argument of Megaros Maximus. But for that, others have to give explanations, not me.”
Asked to evaluate the course of two years since his election to the leadership of PASOK-Movement of Change, N. Androulakis noted, first of all, that “our opponents and some political analysts had prescribed our course, estimating that it would be a one-way street to follow as power supplement New Democracy or SYRIZA. This collapsed with great effort and struggle.”
“In the European elections we will strive to be the official opposition and in the next national elections the government to give a productive and hopeful outlet to the progressive world of the country” underlined the President of PASOK-Movement for Change.
