A joint letter of support for the re-candidacy of Ursula von der Leyen for the position of President of the European Commission is signed on behalf of the EPP by the Prime Minister of Greece and the President of the New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Prime Minister of Poland and President of Platforma Obywatelska, Donald Tusk.

It is noted that according to the rules of the European People’s Party (EPP), in order to be a candidate, one must be nominated by one’s party. Ursula von der Leyen was nominated today Monday (19/2) by the Christian Democratic Party of Germany – CDU) and by two other parties – members of the EPP.

In this context, the letter of support is co-signed by the two most powerful leaders of the EPP, namely the Prime Minister of Greece and President of New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Prime Minister of Poland and President of Platforma Obywatelska, Donald Tusk.

They will handle the support of Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen’s candidacy from the beginning (after today’s announcement) until the end, that is, when at the European Council meetings next June, after the European elections, the EU leaders they will decide on the filling of the positions of the heads of the Community institutions and especially that of the President of the European Commission.
