SYRIZA – PS requests further investigation into potential criminal responsibilities of the politicians who served as Ministers of Infrastructure from the signing of contract 717/2014 until the night of February 28th in the concluding text submitted to the parliamentary inquiry committee.

In the definitive position of the official opposition party, it is pointed out that the investigation must be done by a natural judge and not by the national delegation, since as emphasized in the text by Koumoundourou “for crimes of omission during the exercise of ministerial duties, the ordinary Justice is responsible , as it concerns article 86 of the Constitution and the protective grid for acts performed during the exercise of ministerial duties, it does not appear that the failure to perform due legal action is also included”. As it follows from the conclusion, the control should be done in Mr. Chrysochoidis, Spirtzis, Karamanlis, the Deputy Minister Mr. Karagiannis and also the general secretaries of the ministries.

In addition, Koumoundourou’s conclusion establishes criminal responsibilities of the former Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Kostas Karamanlis, for the appointment of the station master, for the absence of the establishment of National Safety Rules for trains and also for the non-repair of the remote control system in Larissa – it was destroyed in the summer of 2019 He even asks for a unanimous decision by the inquiry committee to lift the parliamentary immunity of the former Minister.

In the frame, however, he also puts the then deputy minister in addition to the prime minister, Christos Triandopoulos, for the interventions at the scene of the train accident in Tempi.

Proposal for a preliminary investigation by PASOK

The proposal for the establishment of a pre-investigation committee is brought back by Harilaou Trikoupi, who did not file a conclusive text today. Members of Parliament – members of the inquiry emphasize that they did not draw up a conclusion as they did not receive the entire file, no essential witnesses were called for examination and the committee did not investigate at all the day after the accident.

“The deprivation by the Commission of Inquiry and, by extension, by Greek society of critical means of evidence which in an inductive way would lead to the disclosure of facts in relation to acts and omissions of persons related to the tragedy of Tempe, among which are those connected to the governing majority political figures, which he is trying to protect”, points out Harilaou Trikoupi, among others, launching a fierce attack on the governing majority.

“From what has been mentioned above, it is obvious that the Commission of Inquiry should be transformed into a Pre-Investigation Commission and exercise its powers in accordance with Article 86 of the Constitution”, concludes the PASOK proposal.
