The president of SYRIZA PS says that they are in the government because the opposition “dare to ask for new appeals at the polls” a few months after the national elections, commenting that “the arrogance of 41% prevents them from realizing that in the last ten months decisive events have taken place which differentiate the data on the basis of which the voters entrusted Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the governance of the country.
The data in the fields of the rule of law and institutions, the economy and security which, in his opinion, “determine today’s reality and justify the need to hold national elections”, Stefanos Kasselakis develops in his article in “Kathimerini” under the title: “Why am I asking for elections – What the voters didn’t know when they gave Mitsotakis 41%”.
The president of SYRIZA PS says that they are in the government because the opposition “dare to ask for new appeals at the polls” a few months after the national elections, commenting that “the arrogance of 41% prevents them from realizing that in the last ten months decisive events have taken place which differentiate the facts on the basis of which the voters entrusted Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the governance of the country”.
In particular, Mr. Kasselakis refers to the new data that existed in relation to the “crime of Tempe”, noting that now the voters “know that there was editing, that the falsified audio was immediately forwarded to a pro-government media outlet and from there it was shown everywhere, that the Kyriakos Mitsotakis made political use of the altered dialogue to issue a verdict within a few hours that the crime was due “exclusively to human error”. “Today we know that the Prosecutor’s Office seized the hard drive from OSE to investigate the case.” In addition, he states that “the voters did not know that the accident site was immediately flooded”, “they did not know if the train was illegally transporting flammable materials (wood, etc.), which today is not disputed”. He mentions, among other things, that “the voters did not know that the government would refuse to set up a preliminary investigation committee and that it would so shamelessly choose the path of covering up the crime.” Today, he adds, “they know that Mitsotakis equals Karamanlis and Karamanlis equals Mitsotakis”.
Secondly, the president of SYRIZA emphasizes that “new facts have been created” in the wiretapping scandal, talking about the decision-“collafo” for the government and Mr. Mitsotakis from the CoE. “It’s different to suspect that a law was made so that Maximus can spy on whoever he wants with impunity than to find that law to be unconstitutional. Now citizens do not suspect. They know”, he comments among other things.
Thirdly, Mr. Kasselakis notes that the voters did not know in June 2023 “what was happening behind their backs”, “that is, the ND, with leader Mitsotakis and secretary the current government representative, Pavlos Marinakis, had access in their personal data. Now everyone knows it.”
The president of SYRIZA continues with economic issues, commenting that “the main issue that the accumulated experience of today flatly refutes the hollow promises of yesterday is the course of the Greek economy”. It specifically mentions that contrary to the “government propaganda” of June 2023 that “accuracy is “imported” and that Greece is an “economic miracle” that can only continue with the re-election of Mitsotakis, voters today know that: Greece is the second poorest EU country in terms of per capita income and purchasing power among the “27”. It is included in the top five countries where inflation is increasing. Food prices have almost doubled in Greece compared to the European average. More than one in four lives in our country below the poverty line. Mr. Kasselakis also adds that “Greece has become the paradise of the dishonesty of the banking oligopoly”, “excessive profits and minimal contribution to the development of the Greek economy”. He also accuses Mr. Mitsotakis of “lying before the election, that taxation would not increase, but would decrease in the small and medium classes”, as “the current reality is the imposition of a minimum presumptive income for freelancers and the self-employed”.
Mr. Kasselakis underlines that the facts have “changed dramatically” since June 2023 and in the matter of security, referring to the developments surrounding the femicide outside the A.T. St. Anargyron. “Now the people know and demand a real cleansing of the Greek Police. Reprimands and not transfers for those in charge, resignations and not excuses from the political superiors”, he says.
The president of SYRIZA PS argues that “Greece cannot afford to lose another three years until the next national elections, mired in nepotism, political hearth solidarity, cover-up, corruption, insecurity, economic uncertainty and enlargement of social inequalities”. “Now the citizens know, so it is our duty to put an end to the arrogance and the decline,” he emphasizes. He adds that the Mitsotakis government is “flirting with Grexit from the European democratic institutional framework” and notes: “We will not allow it. Democracy in this country is a sacred cause and we cannot leave it in the hands of those who play with it to stay in power.”
