We will apply the decision to the letter and to the letter” assured Christos Rammos, president of the Communications Privacy Protection Authority (ADAE) regarding the decision of the Council of State, which deemed unconstitutional the ban on informing those who are monitored.

In his speech at the 9th Delphi Economic Forum, Mr. Rammos characterized “excellent” decision of the SC which concerns the president of PASOK, adding that “it is in his brightest moments that he follows the latest line of jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights in matters of privacy protection”.

In order to inform Nikos Androulakis about the reasons for his attendance, he said that the decision will be taken by the plenary session of the ADAE.

Asked why he did not go to court when he received critical comments from members of the government for his comments on the wiretapping issue, Mr. Rammos said: “If I had criminal trials with members of the government I would have to resign. There was no other way for me to continue to perform my duties properly, as president of an independent authority, with sobriety, composure and even distance, and I had no intention of resigning. I have been appointed for six years since the Conference of Speakers of the House and I intend to honor this appointment, any obstacle to be overcome”.

Asked to comment on accusations that the wiretapping was motivated by political expediency, he said that “this insinuation is a disgrace” and added that in his 40-year term in the CoE, he did not take advantage of the opportunities to make a political career, even more so today in his 70s, when political life, especially Greek life, has never fascinated him.
