The prime minister said that in six months the most modern and beautiful subway of a European city will be delivered to the citizens
In November, the operation of the basic line of the Thessaloniki metro will be inaugurated, and in its expansion study, prepared by the “Hellenic Metro” company, priority is given to the coverage of North-West Thessaloniki, with the result that this area will finally come out of decades of isolation, stressed Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
In six months from now we will be able to deliver to the citizens of Thessaloniki, but also to the visitors, the most modern, in all probability, certainly the most beautiful subway of any European city. And I say this in a city that has been sorely tested by expectations that have been dashed in the past. The Thessaloniki Metro is finally becoming a reality, pointed out the prime minister, during his speech at the event for the presentation of the Metro Extension Study, held at the Karapantsio Cultural Center of Ampelokipi.
This Study envisages the construction of two metro lines, with a total length of 48 kilometers with 44 stations, that will cover the entire urban complex of Thessaloniki and the surrounding area and will serve 678,000 passengers daily by 2040.
The prime minister said that discussions about these projects should not be politicized under any circumstances, because, as he noted, “the data are what will show us where we should go with the metro and with what priority the next projects should be planned ».
At the same time, he emphasized that the imprint of the European Union is visible in these projects as well, and this should be considered by the voters who will go to the polls for the European elections on June 9.
