SYRIZA characterizes the ND as “a jumble of alleged centrists co-governing with the LAOS”, on the occasion of statements by Thanos Pleuris, whom it accuses of adopting the theory of the two extremes.

“The former ND minister and MP, Thanos Plevris, had no difficulty in adopting the despicable “theory of the two extremes”. Speaking to the Action television station about the result of the parliamentary elections in France, Mr. Pleuris described Jean-Luc Mélenchon as ‘just as dangerous as Le Pen for Europe'”, says SYRIZA in a statement.

He notes that “this is an extremely dangerous tactic, which only ends up washing away the fascists and their criminal policy”. He comments that it “doesn’t surprise us, however”, as “New Democracy has been at the forefront of this propaganda in the recent past, attempting to identify those fighting against anti-social policies with Golden Dawn neo-Nazis”. He adds that even today “in Mr. Mitsotakis’s government and party, there are leading figures, apart from Mr. Pleuris, who once had a leading role in the Greek extreme right and also with Le Pen’s party itself.” In particular, he mentions that “Mr. Voridis, for example, did not hesitate to remind us recently of his ‘historic relationship’ with this party, but also of his personal relationships with Jean-Marie Le Pen”. “This is the ND of Mr. Mitsotakis: a jumble of alleged centrists co-governing with LAOS,” SYRIZA finally comments.
