The big question arising from the dismissal of Stefanos Kasselakis from the position of leader of the official opposition and president of SYRIZA concerns his next moves. Those around him emphasize that he will think and announce his decisions. He will open his papers in the coming days and no one can predict where he will end up.

He insisted until the last moment not to lead the party to elections and this shows that he wanted to remain head of Koumoundourou for the three-year term to which he is entitled.

Things have now changed and resignation of his three close associates from SYRIZA, Manolis Kapnisakis, Eugenia Kountouri and Babis Papadakis possibly foreshadowing developments.

The seventh floor in Koumoundourou was vacated and in the coming days it will be clarified what changes will possibly take place in the parliamentary group’s office. Especially if the election of a new president drags on a bit longer and reaches the end of November.

Scenarios are already being given and taken as to whether he intends to move on creation of his own partydisappointed by the climate he encountered in Koumoundourou for a year.

It will not be an easy decision since he had denounced many times those who left SYRIZA, while he had also warned his MPs not to “defection”.

Of course, the circumstances are different since he will be able to argue that the “party kicked him out” when he never defected. In this case, the fact that there are MPs who support him must also be taken into account.

Of course, since he believes that the base of SYRIZA continues to be with him, he has no reason not to address it.

What causes concern? OR today’s Central Committee may have emerged during the presidency of Alexis Tsipras, however 1/3 of it, maybe more, has left after the exit of the team and the “Ahtsioglu team” last fall. The substitutes who completed the “300” group were largely considered by the public to be closer to him. This means that the former president of SYRIZA has largely lost his own supporters.

The climate is therefore not the same and according to many this is the reason he is reportedly having second thoughts about his return to Koumoundourou.
