Comrades and comrades,

the day before yesterday in Keratsini during the march for the murder of Pavlos Fyssas by the neo-Nazi criminals of the Golden Dawn, the comrades came anxiously to ask me what we are doing? How will we continue? What will happen to our party?

The same question dominates the social base of SYRIZA-PS while the wave of demobilization and disappointment is expanding. As well as the discrediting of the party and our ideas in society. As we identified in the previous Central Committee 15 days ago.

There is no easy answer, but we must start with the reasons that led us to party and political integration and remain unchanged.

Let’s start with what unites us. Progressive ideas and values, ideals of social liberation and justice and democratic ideals are the one pillar and necessity of comradeship. The great value of “together”, the other pillar we can lean on. These are what we need today in KE, because these values ​​have not disappeared and will not disappear. We owe it to the ideas and values ​​of the left to find the way out of the labyrinth we are in with the weapon of camaraderie.

Because the values ​​of the left and camaraderie are challenged first of all among us. Don’t tell me you’re not scared by the toxicity and tension in the new realm of social media, branded and anonymous, that are far from left-wing values ​​and plainly anti-democratic.

The left has been recorded in the consciousness of Greek society for its high ideals, the quality and kindness of its people. And no one has the right to tarnish this social historical legacy.

And no one has the right to question the legacy of the Government of the Left, the Government of Alexis Tsipras, the Government that kept society upright and Greece stronger and brought it out of the abyss of memoranda and bankruptcy.

And because the phenomena of fandom and threats are multiplying, which question the democratic right of opinion but also the obligation to observe the statute, I have to say that these are attitudes and behaviors of other political and social spaces and do not fit in our house. Neither authoritarianism, nor shouting, nor sterile anger.

And I have to describe yesterday’s new phenomenon, the leakage of provocative and malicious publications, with evidence from our offices, as was done in the case of Kostas Zachariadis with purely political insinuations without any substance. He doesn’t really want anyone to understand the targeting.

So, let’s make it clear to everyone and to each other, SYRIZA-P.S. to which I am referring, of the ideals and values ​​of the left and inclusion, is a necessary political body for Greek society.

He is necessary to mount a substantial and uncommitted opposition to Mr. Mitsotakis, but also to form the core of the progressive counter-attack with the goal of a progressive Government. But our party is also necessary to protect and reproduce left-wing, progressive ideas and values.

For all these reasons – which I believe no one disputes – we must say to all sides:

We are and we will all be here! This must be the agreement of the Central Committee. And we will even surpass ourselves to make this a reality. In order not to do the system of power and the entanglement that a broken SYRIZA-PS wants.

In order to fight the great social battles of quality of life, better income, the battle against accuracy, and the super profits of the oligopolies that Mr. Mitsotakis supports, but also access to education, health, water and a healthy environment, it is necessary a strong, serious, reliable SYRIZA-PS.

In order to give a progressive answer to the descent of Mr. Mitsotakis, the space of our own ideas, which are radical, strongly reformist, European, ecological, democratic, must be strong.

This fight cannot be fought with a liquidated SYRIZA-PS. Something that has been happening for a long time, but especially after the European elections, where we are watching the discredit of SYRIZA-PS.

The latest incident of censure has clearly hurt us. We made many attempts to avoid it. But we must be clear:

The censure was chosen and pursued by the former president. Underestimating that this will be a stigma for the party, underestimating the possibility of reaching grassroots elections, which she so often mentioned but did not want to hear her opinion. And even with him in the position of president until the elections of a new leadership.

And this makes the reaction after the result of the censure even more hypocritical, because we choose a procedure based on the statute and not whether we like the result or not. You cannot request the submission and vote of a censure and if you lose consider it undemocratic.

Just as the characterizations of “hoodies” and “perversion” are unacceptable and reprehensible, examples of another culture and mentality on his part.

But I believe that the biggest problem is the political choices of the former president that led to the motion of censure.

The inconsistent political backbitings, fragmentation, the violation of the decisions of the conference, with the parallel phenomena of personal overpromotion and discrediting of the collective, did not only deprive us of a better result in the European elections, but also led in July and August to the shrinking of our appeal and the social obsolescence.

The beheading of the KO presidium without a proposal from the PG and without any justification or deficit, and the attempt to alter our characteristics with the proposal of statutory regulations – which fortunately were rejected in the statute committee – proved the distance of the former president from our ideas and also from the characteristics of our party.

He didn’t want this party, he wanted another one and that’s why he brought back the proposal to change the name as was done in February with the questionnaire.

It is not only that his choices and his practice do not correspond to the role of the president of SYRIZA-PS… The most important thing that interests the society is that these choices of Stefanos Kasselakis served the plan of Kyriakos Mitsotakis who is partying at the expense of society. But also PASOK which collects from our liquidation.

This is the major thing comrades and comrades, that the former president’s choices were against the values ​​of the left and the interests of society.

We must formulate today the road map for the next day of SYRIZA-PS. To overcome the difficult months that have passed and the stigma of censure. And to overcome, in democratic terms, the toxicity that is cultivated.

The restart of our party requires a reliable, serious, dynamic SYRIZA to be trusted by society and to be able to support the needs and rights of citizens, to play a central political role by overturning the plans of the Mitsotakis system.

And this must be expressed in the leadership of SYRIZA PS and in its political initiatives at every moment. Let’s finally put the Progressive Alliance into action. And this alliance should include all the creative people of society and embrace all the vulnerable, as well as the youth.

My opinion on the process of the Congress and the election of the president has been expressed. We owe it to all our organizations to chat “calmly and simply” about our political proposal for the next day. And this presupposes a serious dialogue focused on politics and with an eye and thinking on tomorrow, which invites all the social SYRIZA and those who have withdrawn and disappointed to participate.

For this and the schedule of the Congress and the elections must give time for the restart of the party and the activation of the organizations. We cannot listen to the members only when they vote for a president and not want the organizations to talk politically and not function. This is the danger of fast track procedures that propose speeding up procedures.

Of course, nominations can also fuel this dialogue, but not only them. We need a political plan.

The candidacies for the position of the president must express, ensure and guarantee the unity, the collective. But also the values ​​and ideas of the left. And of course to commit to respecting the collective bodies and their decisions, where there was the greatest inconsistency.

It’s not that difficult. KO consistently served this goal for 14 months.

The choice of leadership and together with a coherent political plan ensures that beyond the person there will also be a team. Which will put back the next day. No drama, no toxicity, since the political debate will be completed democratically. We will all be together: without leadership, without I, but also without polyphonic dissonance, that hurt us.

We have to fix it now, because we will be unjustifiable to society and to the history of the Left.”
