The US Deputy Secretary of State will be in Athens from October 8 to 9, where he will hold discussions on promoting US-Greece energy cooperation
The regional energy transition and energy security priorities will be at the center of the visit to Greece and Turkey by the US Under Secretary of State for Energy Jeffrey Pyatt.
The US Deputy Secretary of State will be in Athens from October 8-9, where he will have the opportunity to discuss advancing US-Greece energy cooperation with senior Greek officials, including the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs . In addition, he will meet with energy company leaders to discuss opportunities related to clean energy development and improving regional connectivity.
Geoffrey Pyatt’s program will also include speaking at an EU-hosted event on diversifying gas supplies in Southeast and Central Europe and promoting the joint US-EU goal of a full decoupling from Russian energy by 2027.
The second leg of the visit of the deputy minister will continue in Istanbul from October 9 to 10. During his stay in the neighboring country, Mr Pyatt will participate in the Atlantic Council think tank’s Regional Conference on Clean and Secure Energy. Officials from Albania, North Macedonia and Romania will participate in this event.
As stated in the announcement of the State Department, “the representatives will discuss the promotion of clean energy development and collective efforts to strengthen the region’s leadership in energy security. He (Geoffrey Pyatt) will also continue our work to support Ukraine’s energy resilience this winter.”
