Megaro Maximos is determined not to be seduced by the “sirens” of the opposition bid
By Penelope Galliou
In the faithful implementation of its pre-election commitments and in the continuation of the reforms, which aim to ease everyday life and improve the lives of citizens, the government transforming into action everything he planned and promised for the country and its citizens.
Another tangible proof according to government officials is the breath given by the Ministry of Finance by abolishing a number of taxes and charges with the new tax bill, which was presented by the Minister, Kostis Hatzidakis together with Deputy Ministers Christos Dimas and Thanos Petralia.
“It is important to speak with evidence, to the citizens who listen to us” commented a government official, recalling the tax policy of the government, which already from its first term, had proceeded to reduce or even abolish fifty taxes and tax rates while continuing during the second four-year period in the same rotation.
After all, the stamp for the current government term and its tax policy was given by the Prime Minister himself from the TIF platform, last year Septemberwhen he announced the further reduction of 12 tax rates from 01/01/2025 with a total fiscal benefit for citizens, 900 million euros. Among which the new tax reductions presented yesterday by Mr. Hatzidakis.
Guided by the reverent adherence to the rules of fiscal stability and without this being called into question, the government will continue to give breathing space to citizens and households either through the increase of incomes, having committed to the average salary reaching 1500 euros by the end of the four-year period, either through the reduction of taxes. “We will continue in the direction of tax exemptions and income support, but as our program provides and as quickly as we can. We can do this. That is, to bring forward measures that would come after a few months. We can achieve this within four years. As we did with the pretense fee” said the government representative in an interview.
At the same time, the Maximos Palace is determined not to be seduced by the “sirens” of the opposition’s bidding that “caress the ears” of disaffected or financially strained citizens, announcing in all directions that it will not enter into a logic of bidding, reminding the country’s fiscal commitments towards the EU and the rules of the medium-term plan. “That is, if tomorrow morning an opposition party comes and says that I want to give to category a or category b spending, to increase for example, as another president had said, spending on health by an additional 5%. He must say where he will cut. Otherwise his proposal, his announcement, is pointless” Mr. Marinakis gave as an example, calling on his political opponents if they want a confrontation, it should be based on real data.
The change of page in the leadership of PASOK without, however, a change of face, has prepared Megaros Maximos for a new period of confrontation with Harilaou Trikoupi, as it is estimated that Mr. Androulakis will attempt to return dynamically to the fore, seeking to strengthen his opposition profile. At a time when SYRIZA is plagued by its internal party quarrels and it is not excluded that such conditions will be formed in Koumoundourou that will make PASOK and Nikos Androulakis and institutionally the main opponent of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, from the seats of the official opposition.
At Megaros Maximos, however, they believe that the world is no longer won over by magic formulas and slogans and promises, which have a logic of bidding, which is why, after all, it projects the same and responds to any criticism it receives with actions and works, as a government agent noted. Consequently, what they indirectly convey to Mr. Androulakis is that if he wants a confrontation, it should be based on real data, with specific, costed and implementable proposals.
“Gone are the days when, for example, Mitsotakis would say ten and Androulakis would come out to say fifteen” observed Pavlos Marinakis, making sense, hurrying to advance any such attempt by the re-elected leadership of Harilaou Trikoupis.
