For Nikos Androulakis, it is not easy to reject the supreme judge who handled the wiretapping case – SYRIZA was crushed
By Antonis Anzoletou
Alexis Haritsis proposed Christos Rammos for president of the Republic and the discussion is not only about its next tenant Herod Atticusbut for the possible collusion of the progressive forces “flare up”. Continuing the “pressing” towards the forces of the center-left, he called for a meeting with them Nikos Androulakis, Sokrati Famello, Dimitri Koutsoumba and Zoe Konstantopoulou. THE Alexis Haritsis has managed to bring to the fore a debate that until last week only took place behind the closed doors of the parties. In Harilaou Trikoupi and Koumoundourou they felt uncomfortable. For Nikos Androulakis, it is not easy to reject the supreme judge who handled the wiretapping case, while the extent to which SYRIZA was squeezed was shown by the fact that, according to many, Sokratis Famellos has “photographed” the candidacy of Rammos, without opening the papers further of. At the Central Committee on Saturday, he said that “it cannot be a matter of one party”. Given that the president of SYRIZA has now set his sights on PASOK, it is very likely that he saw that even if his party gives him the “green light” for the president of ADAE, Nikos Androulakis will isolate himself and be seen as colluding with the New Republic.
The “equation” is particularly difficult because the proposal made by the majority cannot be disregarded. Patience until January is necessary for the characteristics of the person to be proposed. Alexis Haritsis in the invitation letter he issued stated among other things: “During the election process President of the Republic there is a need to challenge the bogus consensus sought by the Prime Minister responsible for the deep wounds to the rule of law and put a stop to the arrogance of an authoritarian and anti-social government. I believe that the issue of defending the rule of law should be a meeting point, in order to ensure the observance of the constitutional rules and guarantees, which are the minimum procedural condition for the essentially democratic functioning of the state”.
With the other powers things start to get complicated. They don’t want to lose the initiative of the movements, but it seems that the New Left caught up with them. Charilaou Trikoupis sources commented that Nikos Androulakis will meet with Alexis Haritsis in a reasonable time. They added that “as far as the issue of the presidency of the Republic is concerned, we have stated that this discussion is premature, there is no need for hasty moves”. They believe that January is the month when the dialogue should begin. From the PASOK point out that his main concern is not to register a minority progressive proposal for the Presidency of the Republic, but to elect a president with these characteristics.
Sokratis Famellos, everything shows that he wants to win some more time. Party officials stress that “next week, after the budget, our collective bodies will meet on this issue and we will also respond to Haritsis’ request”. “We are not negative to the dialogue with all progressive forces, but everything must be done at the right time”, they add, wanting to show that they keep the “doors” with the New Left open.
It is clear from Perissos that they will vote against any person nominated, as they always do. They consider that the institution of the president of the Republic is par excellence unpopular. As Nikos Karathanasopoulos mentioned last week in the Parliament, they note that Christos Rammos took a specific stance regarding the wiretapping of the KKE, considering them non-existent.
The attitude of Zoi Konstantopoulou is still cautious. He believes that it is crucial to renew the term of office of Christos Rammos at ADAE, as he is the guarantor of the integrity of the Authority’s operation in spite of the obvious interventions made by the government. Essentially this proposal seals the end of his term which is something they do not want in Freedom Sailing. Although a “golden ratio” does not seem to be found, the four parties currently have 75 MPs in Parliament.
