The creation of the Greek Artificial Intelligence Factory “Pharos” was announced by the Prime Minister – “An emblematic project”, he emphasizes
“It is with great pleasure that I announce to you that as of today Greece is one of the 7 EU countries selected by the European Commission to create the first artificial intelligence factories (AI factories) in Europe with community and national funding”, announced the prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his post.
As the prime minister notes: “Why is this conquest important? First and foremost, because with the creation of the Hellenic Artificial Intelligence Factory “Pharos“, our strategy emerges commitment in innovation and technological leadership in Europe.
This initiative is one of the flagship projects proposed by the High-Level Advisory Committee on Artificial Intelligence in the recently published “Plan for Greece’s Transition to the Age of Artificial Intelligence” to establish Greece as an AI innovation destination worldwide .
“Pharos” will work catalysts as a hub for artificial intelligence, driving technological progress in the areas of health, environmental sustainability, and in particular, culture and language—areas that are inextricably linked to the priorities set out in our national strategy for artificial intelligence published before a few days.
Supported by the “DAEDALUS” supercomputer, the “Pharos” Artificial Intelligence Factory will provide an integrated ecosystem for the development and adoption of artificial intelligence. From upskilling human resources, to providing advanced computing resources and guidance on entrepreneurship, ethics and compliance.
Our goal is for the Greek artificial intelligence factory to become a hub of research and knowledge for our wider geographical area, highlighting Greece as a technological pole”.
“Congratulations are due to the leadership of the Ministry of Digital Governance, EDYTE, and the renowned research and academic partners EKEFE “Demokritos”, National Technical University of Athens and Research Center “ATHENA”, as well as the Superfund. It is an important national success that brings us to the European vanguard and opens new paths for Greek researchers, the Greek public and Greek business, at the same time giving technological progress the human-centered character that Greece should have, thanks to tradition and its culture, can guarantee”, points out Mr. Mitsotakis.
