PM attends Google ‘AI Connect’ conference – ‘Obviously AI is a hugely useful tool’, says PM
The Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took part in a training seminar on Artificial Intelligence as part of the Google conference “AI Connect”, held at the Athens Concert Hall. The seminar was co-organized by the Special Secretariat for Long-Term Planning and Google and was attended by members of the Council of Ministers and the Advisory Committee on Artificial Intelligence.
After the completion of the seminar o Prime minister stated:
“I had the great pleasure to participate today, together with several members of the Cabinet, in an extremely interesting presentation on how artificial intelligence can help at the level of various applications to improve public policies.
Greece aspires to play a leading role in the new world of artificial intelligence. A few days ago we published the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence and yesterday we had the extremely pleasant news that Greece and specifically the “Pharos” project was selected as one of the seven AI Factories by the European Commission. In other words, in terms of artificial intelligence infrastructure, Greece is now “playing” in the European Champions League.
And obviously artificial intelligence is an extremely useful tool to be able to improve public policies and make citizens’ lives better. Whether we are talking about applications in health or we are talking about applications in civil protection or we are talking about applications that can make life in our city easier, artificial intelligence is a unique tool that must now be integrated into public policies.
Obviously, artificial intelligence also has another side, a darker side, it has many risks that we must control and limit and Greece aspires, in this field, to play a leading role in Europe, in the further specialization of the European legislative framework, of the AI Act, so that on the one hand we encourage the creation and formation of companies around the field of artificial intelligence in our country, with a flexible regulatory framework, on the other hand we regulate those applications of artificial intelligence which may pose risks and require protection at either national or European level”.
