The funeral procession of the former president of the Athens Bar Association, Yannis Adamopoulos, which took place in the holy church of Agia Varvara in Old Faliro, was attended by the former president of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos, the former prime minister Costas Karamanlis, the government representative Pavlos Marinakis, the deputy minister of foreign affairs Giorgos Kotsiras, o Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security Costas Karagounis, former ministers Byron Polydoras and Evripides Stylianidis, MPs Dimitris Markopoulos and Dimitris Manzos.
Funeral speeches were delivered by Euripides Stylianidis, the former president of the Athens Bar Association Dimitris Paxinos, the former president of the Thessaloniki Bar Association Nikos Valergakis and the adviser of the Athens Bar Association Dimitris Anastasopoulos.
In addition, the president of the Athens Bar Association Dimitris Vervesos, the president of the Piraeus Bar Association Ilias Klapas and a number of lawyers from all over Greece attended.
The body of the deceased was taken to his native place of Skleiro, Messinia. Yiannis Adamopoulos was born in 1962 in the village of Sklirou in Messinia and passed away at the age of 63. He was a graduate of the Law School of the Demokriteio University of Thrace and practiced as a lawyer in Athens since 1986. From April 2005 to November 2007 he was the Consumer Advocate, head of the Independent Authority.
From November 2007 to January 2009 he was president of the Vocational Education and Training Organization (OEEK), president of the College Evaluation Committee of the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs, as well as vice president of ESEEKA.
From February to October 2009, he was Secretary General of Communications of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
He was a consultant of the Athens Bar Association (first in votes in the 1999, 2002 and 2005 elections).
Deputy representative of the Athens Bar Association at the National Commission for Human Rights (1999-2002).
During his tenure on the Board of Directors of the Athens Bar Association, he was a member of its Disciplinary Council, a member of its management committee, as well as a member and rapporteur in committees that elaborated and submitted proposals regarding issues related to the proper functioning of the Judiciary and its proper award.
He also served as chairman of the Amicable Settlement Committee of the Prefecture of Athens, as a representative of the Athens Bar Association (1999-2001).
He was a member of the Union of Greek Lawyers, the Union of Consumer Protection Law and other scientific associations.
In the February-March 2011 elections, he was elected president of the Athens Bar Association.
