Skylakakis to SKAI for fuel and electricity subsidies: How to deal with the energy crisis

by

For the accuracy and the subsidies that the government will give for support for households and businesses Deputy Minister of Finance Theodoros Skylakakis spoke to SKAI.

“Revenues for 2021 went better than we expected and the first two months of this year ended with revenue exceeding by 600 million euros,” said the deputy minister.

He noted, however, that in order to use this money we will have to wait and see how things develop internationally.

“When international fuel prices rise and the country does not produce gas and oil, then the country becomes poorer,” he said, explaining that this has the effect of slowing down growth.

Regarding the criticism of the official opposition to the government, he said: “The country does not have an investment grade, we have a deficit. So what we give is Danish. When you give Danish, you do not waste. “SYRIZA sees things with distorting lenses.”

He stressed, however, that in times of great uncertainty “you must be prudent and careful.”

For toolkit of support measures households and businesses, said it would give more flexibility to more targeted measures.

He also explained that there can be no long-term planning before the war breaks out.

He assured, however, that the government will continue to help with electricity throughout the crisis. “In everything else we have to see how things go.”

Speaking about the expanded income criterion in the gasoline subsidy, he stressed that higher criteria were chosen to receive the subsidy from those who really deserve it, as the ministry acknowledges that there are cases of tax evasion in various sectors, which present much lower revenues than the real one.

As for diesel, he said that the government is committed to giving the double subsidy for April. He also left open the possibility of subsidizing the KTEL.

Finally, he noted that the picture he has from the electronic transactions in March is positive. “If we have a good script we will have more possibilities.”
