Citizen Protection Minister M. Chrysochoidis met with Finnish Interior Minister Mari Rantanen today at the Ministry, in the presence of ELAS leader Lieutenant General Dimitrios Malliou.

As stated in the announcement, at the heart of the debate of the two delegations raised the issue of border security and the strengthening of cooperation, so that there is a more effective guard at national borders, which are also the EU border.

“We face common challenges,” Ms Rantanen said, while Mr Chrysochoidis, for his part, referred to all the measures Greece has taken in the wider Evros region where, as he noted, migratory flows are almost zero.

In addition, they referred to strengthening their cooperation and the areas of dealing with transnational crime, internal security and terrorism, as well as in domestic violence and minor delinquency.

In addition, the Finnish Interior Minister referred in detail to the particularities of guarding her country’s borders, which are also European borders.

Particular reference was made to the role of FRONTEX in the most effective management of migratory flows and border guarding in cooperation with national competent services.

The meeting was attended by the Greek side by the diplomatic adviser of the Minister of Citizen Protection, Ambassador George Petmezakis and senior and senior ELAS officers. The Finnish delegation was accompanied by the Finnish ambassador to Greece, Leena Pylvänäinen, as well as other Finnish Embassy executives.
