At the 10th Summit of the Three Seas, held in Warsaw, Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis intervened, conveying the greetings of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

In his speech, Mr Gerapetritis referred to Ukraine, saying that “he continues to enjoy our full and unshakable support, while we all expect the in -depth peace negotiations to finally bear fruit. The initiative of the three seas is, in fact, one of the forums that can make a decisive contribution to the recovery and rebuilding of that country, plagued by war, as well as its connectivity with regional infrastructure networks, with the ultimate goal of joining the EU. “

Continuing, the Foreign Minister emphasized that “in this context of the common, serious and complex geopolitical challenges we face, interconnection – ongoing and under planning – between Greece and neighboring countries, such as natural gas reinforcement plants, Greece, as well as programmable energy interconnection projects with North Africa and the Middle East, are examples of the added value of Greece’s participation in the initiative, adding two seas, the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea in the three seas of the initiative. “

In detail, Mr. Gerapetritis’ intervention:

Honorable,

Dear colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to be here with you today and I would like to convey to you the greetings of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

President Duda,

Thank you, not only for organizing this meeting, but also for your valuable contribution, as you were the lead in creating this initiative ten years ago. You were one of the few who first envisioned the contribution of the three seas initiative, not only in economic growth and prosperity, but also to the safety, stability and durability of infrastructure in Eastern Europe and the EU as a whole, which is gaining more importantly in the light of its continuity, his fourth year.

Ukraine continues to enjoy our full and steadfast support, when we all expect the ongoing peace negotiations to finally bear fruit. The initiative of the three seas is, in fact, one of the forums that can make a decisive contribution to the recovery and rebuilding of that country, plagued by war, as well as its connectivity to regional infrastructure networks, with the ultimate goal of integrating it into the EU.

In this context of the common, serious and complicated geopolitical challenges we face, interconnection projects – ongoing and under planning – between Greece and neighboring countries, such as natural gas reinforcement units, energy interconnections with neighboring Balkan countries, Interconnection with North Africa and the Middle East are examples of the added value of Greece’s participation in the initiative, adding two seas, the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea in the three seas of the initiative.

At the same time, however, we must not forget the equally important importance of the initiative, which also operates in addition to the wider EU policies and basic funding tools, such as the project “Global Gateway”, to achieve the common goal of safeguarding and promoting Europe.

I believe that these aspects of “security”, “resilience” and “differentiation” promoted by our initiative in this part of Europe and, I can say, to the world as a whole are those that attract the growing interest and other states to connect with it.

In this context, we welcome Albania and Montenegro this year as the new “connected members”.

We also welcome as new strategic partners, Spain and Turkey, while at the same time we are currently establishing terms and conditions for our strategic partners for the first time.

Dear friends,

The initiative of the three seas is not just an alliance of states that seek to achieve stronger connectivity in all areas. It is a family of nations who must be deeply rooted in democratic values, in the rule of law and an international security architecture based on rules.
